Beginner August 2013

:-(

Hey ladies! I went for a dress fitting last night and walked away feeling like poop. Just abit of background we got engaged on 9th June 2013 and we are egtting married on the 11th Aug 2013 so with just under two months of planning i didnt have a great deal of time to find a dress. I orginally wanted a low key prom style dress and was planning to buy it from the high street. However, i went to a wedding dress sale before having chance to hit the high street and there i was £500 lighter with a full on wedding dress. EEkk! Im very big busted and a size 18/20 so as you can imagine alot of alterations needed to be done. The company have been very helpful and i have been going for weekly fittings. I really hoped last night that i would be able to collect dress.... baring in mind i get married next sunday! However, bust still not right, beading still needs finishing and a few good inches taken off the hem GGRRRR! no problem right well...

As i was stood there in my dress this lady walked out in this stunning dress and the whole room gasped. Now im not a jealous bride and i have to admit i dont even like any sort of attention but i just feel that my dress has lost the WOW factor :-( Came home feeling crap and took it out on hubby to be.

Am i just feeling like this because im not seeing the finished product orrr? Help!!! x

Yes it sounds like it's just because you feel it isn't right yet, once it's all altered properly and you are all done up on the day I bet you'll feel amazing! Well done on organising everything in such a short space of time, that is a feat in itself!

I'm sure on the day you will feel amazing and everyone will think you look beautiful. What really matters is you're getting married to the person you love and even if you turn up in a bin bag it'll still be the best day of your life x

As soon as it's finished and altered perfectly for you, you'll feel so much better about it.
You chose the dress for a reason and i'm sure you'll be beautiful in it on your big day Smiley smile

I felt a bit "meh" about my dress for my first couple of fittings, then went back last time when the length was altered - still minor things to do like fully reattach the beading etc, and when I came out other ladies trying on dresses were saying how nice my dress was and i felt fantastic then (I'm around your size).

It makes a massive difference once all the alterations are done and i'm sure you'll fall in love with yours again. My big day is a couple of days before yours and like i say, mine isn't fully complete yet. Please don't worry just remember why you chose the dress and have faith that you, OH and guests will love it on the day and you'll look stunning Smiley smile

You sure they gasped at her because she looked awesome and not because she looked a state next to your dress??? ?

I agree, all part of the selling process for brides they want to close the deal on! The higher the price tag, the louder the gasp (and maybe tears if v expensive haha). You have put yourself under a lot of pressure with less than 2 months, and stress makes everyone go irrational at times! Glad you are feeling better now xxxx

Absolutely. I am having my dress made for me and although its been a great experience I had a MASSIVE wobble about it at the 2nd to last fitting. It just wasn't right, fitted fine, but the little details on it weren't how I wanted them. I was so deflated. However, I had a chat with my wonderful dressmaker about my concerns and she assured me she'd fix everything. I was still unsure until I went for my final fitting on Tuesday... I loved the dress again and was so so happy.

It'll be alright on the night.. and the best thing about being the bride on the wedding is that no one will have the same dress as you and no one ever ever upstages the bride. You will look a million dollars I'm certain. Chin up. x

Also, remember it's just a dress, and on the day you'll just be happy about getting married and thinking about your OH and none of the smaller details will matter anymore Smiley smile

You'll look lovely when its finished Smiley smile

you're about the same size as me, and you're probably being hard on yourself anyway, so be nice to you Smiley smileSmiley smile

once all the adjustments are made, and its truly your dress you'll look gorgeous, feel gorgeous and you'll feel fantastic

(and I agree with the others, the gasping is all part of the sales enthusiasm, the bigger the more they feel the bride to be needs a nudge!! I swear half the women in bridal shops sound asthmatic with the gasping they do all day!

(cynical, me, just a tad )

    xxxxx

Please don't tar us all with the same brush ☹️ I only sell gowns over a size 16, with the majority of my brides being a 22-24 but have been up to a size 36 and looked amazing! I wouldn't let a bride look anything less than fabulous on her wedding day and our smiles are genuine. We give VERY honest opinions in the shop and being a size 22 myself I understand lots of fears and anxieties about not looking like I wanted to on my wedding day, that's how the shop came about in the first place.

On a very positive note Im so glad you were pleased with your dress when it was finished. It is difficult to picture what the finished dress will fit and look like and when we have orders come into the shop and have first fittings the brides usually get deflated as they rarely have the shape that the finished article will have. Enjoy your wedding day, you WILL look amazing x

I definitely did not mean to tar everyone with the same brush, and having spoken with you, and emailed, I know you give fabulous help to people, but I have seen the over zealous antics in some stores.

I know if I were nearer Peterborough I would be visiting you lots Smiley smileSmiley smile

    Aw yay!

Not bridezilla at all. I think we all have had moments of panic at some point and if we haven't then we are due one!
