1 hour between food and DJ...ideas?

lynsin86, 1 June, 2015 at 10:52 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hello

I am getting married at the end of July, it's going to be quite a laid back affair. I have an hours gap between food and the DJ starting (he is coming straight from work). But I was talking to my friend the other day and she said I NEED to have something for the guests to do within this hour or else they will get bored! So now, for the first time, I am really stressing about it as I don't want anyone feeling fed up. Has anyone got any ideas of what we could do within this hour? We don't have a lot of money for this. Also if you could let me know if my predicted timings for the day are OK that would be helpful...We aren't having speeches or a first dance either. THANK YOU!

2pm-230pm- ceremony

2.30-240- signing register etc

240-330- photos and drinks

330-4- walk to reception venue (a pub)

4-430- drinks. circulate

430-530- BBQ

530-630- ?

6.30-11.30- disco (inc. a buffest at 8.30/9ish)

    Hi.

Is there any particular reason why you are not having speeches? That would be an obvious way of filling up some time.

Are you having a wedding cake? Perhaps you can cut and hand out the cake during this hour?

I have been to a wedding where they hired a caricaturist, which some people really enjoyed.

I think 1 hour is fine. People can talk among themselves.

i wouldn't feel obliged to fill any gaps!

if they are still in a seating area could you just put on some background music?

    Pass around guest book etc?

Its only an hour, surely guests can have chat and get a drink, discuss the day so far. I don't think they'll get bored. If you think it's really necessary you could consider garden games, or even some board games so people can have something to do. I'm thinking of getting hungry hippos, k'plunk and connect 4 for the tables outside in the evening.

You absolutely do not need something to fill this time. If you want something, that's a different matter but do not feel obligated. Most of the weddings we shoot don't have anything special scheduled during the gap and never yet have I seen a guest keel over from boredom ?

With only an hour set aside for food it's not as though guests will have been sat with each other for 3 hours already, so they will be more than able to occupy themselves for an hour. Especially in July- if you get a nice day people will enjoy the opportunity to be outside with a drink and have a good chat.

If you really want something to keep guests entertained i can highly recommend… in fact highly recommend doesn't even come close he's not only a fantastic magician but funny to go with it. Never heard a bad word said about him from clients, guests, venues and other suppliers.…..

Can you set up at games corner? You can pick stuff up from carboot sales, so giant jenga, twister, giant snakes and ladders etc. We picked all of ours up this way for less then £5.

I agree with others, you don't need anything, an hour will fly by! By thr time guests have eaten, drank, chatted and freshened up for the evening they will have filled they time. Xx

Background music will do for an hour, don't stress. Once your guests have eaten, the break will give them a chance to let their food settle before all of that dancing.
