1-0 to us

MRS RB, 16 June, 2014 at 22:49 Posted on Planning 0 32

So I've only been here a few weeks so there's lots of things you lovelies don't know about me yet but with just over 6 months to our big day we have plenty of time.

Few facts

New years Eve wedding

Snowflake 'theme'

Self funded

Been planning since December 2012

My MIL2B drives me round the bend- I have some great stories ;-)

So the reason for this post; my H2B's 2nd cousin is getting married 6 weeks before us, she is marrying a 'celebrity' and their engagement and wedding plans were announced in ok magazine. I was ok with this until the MIL2B kept going on about how wonderful it was going to be. H2B and I had a long chat about it and we both feel his mum isn't interested in our wedding but is very interested in 2nd cousins. MIL2B has suggested she will be wearing same outfit to both weddings;H2B has said 'no your not (MIL2B isn't short if a few quid), I don't care how much your outfit costs but your mother of the groom and when bro got married you had a new outfit'. Things have died down a bit, fast forward to today and she's seen the other brides mum who advised the wedding dress is costing £7000 plus £700 for alterations- crazy money. H2B has told MIL2B 'this is obscene and maybe she should make more of an effort to show an interest in our wedding' and she responded saying 'oh I am more so as you are paying for it yourselves'

I'm left feeling quite smug :-)

Oh come now Miss R don't tease us, who's the celebrity? Smiley winking

Plus well done you on your point!! Hope MIL2B gets a new outfit - besides won't she cringe if "OK" share snaps of this celebrity wedding and she happens to be in one of the shots and then turns up at yours in the same outfit!?

My MIL2B has no shame, we went to a wedding in the Black Country a few years back; we travelled up the day before so there was no stress on the day but she refused to pay for 2 nights accommodation so they arrived Kate. The bride walked down the aisle with my MIL2B following her.

My colleague apparently had an £8k dress. I honestly couldn't tell! Unless I was super rich I personally couldn't justify that!

I don't care what my mum or MIL2B wear...should I? I mean maybe I don't want them to come wearing jeans, but otherwise, meh. My mum has bought a lovely dress for my SIL's mum's wedding and I'd be quite happy if she wore it to ours too, although I know she won't as it's a summer dress and our wedding is in Jan. But if they don't wanna buy new outfits, fine.

Could you elaborate as to why it is "1-0"?

From the second I saw celebrity I was ready to ask 'footballer, reality 'star' or soap actor'...

I see now its the latter, not really 'celebrities' in my opinion I doubt that 99%+ of the world never heard of them lol

I mean if that's the case then im marrying a celebrity and I could be classed as one too, at least our appearances and credits are worldwide lol

I also have no idea what the '1-0' thing is about

Is it because MIL2B is admitting she is more interested in her own son's wedding than in one of a distant relative? And if her only reason for her interest is that you are paying it for it yourselves, then I think she is a bit of a tw@t if I am honest.

My MIL2B is very difficult as I said in my original post but for the 1st time in the 18 months she's almost admitted that she is looking forward to our wedding and she knows it will be nice, sorry if it wasnt clear that I feel I have got 1 up on her

    :-)

Everything is about money with her- how much we spend on meals out offends her. If her only compliment is you paid for it yourselves after the day I'll be upset but not surprised. She would choose money over 99% of things in her life- shes obsessed by it- its weird!

Yeah she did say them and it was in text so I can look at it again and again *laughing face*

Think people may have taken my post title the wrong way its not about winning against the other couople its about the MIL2B actually being 'nice' (very loosely) to us. My H2B is not her fave and this is known by family and friends so for her to show us any form of complement is huge for us- sad really but for the first time the other night I felt that she realsied how hard we had been working for our big day

You've got one up on her because she's looking forward to your wedding and expressed this? Wow.
