100 First Dance Songs

Good list Luca. Towards the back end of last year we did some research worldwide as to what people were having.

At the top of the list are the most popular. There are some awful tracks and some good ones. Its an interesting read and may give inspiration of what to have OR what NOT to have.

Well although the majority, I find, do love the soppy stuff, some people cringe at the even the thought of having a first dance! Everyone's different.

Hey and interesting one I had last year was a couple doing the Tango (I think it was) to 'They' - Jem. That was pretty cool, though not on the list - oops.

....And DJ Sally once had a couple bouncing around to The Hair Bare Bunch! haha.

But neither of your lists have got "So Happy Together" by The Turtles! I love that song, the lyrics are great - although it does make me think a little of npower/Twix adverts! I used to work at npower and when one of the girls got married I suggested she have this song - she wasn't so keen! lol!

I'm undecided yet, but as H2B and I have a very different music taste to most of our guests we're going to dig through all our old CD collections and find something really different but with great lyrics. Oh, and Billy Idol's "White Wedding" will probably be our second song ?

Have you got any suggestions for unusual (but still romantic) first dance songs??

I had a couple who's favourite song was Jesse - Dancing in the dark. They didn't want to smooch for long and wanted to go straight in to party. So I took the original slow version and half way through mixed it into the club version.....it worked a treat.......and gave all their guests a surprise!

I've got a couple coming up soon who are reluctant first dancers and they are having the first few bars of Hallelujia mixed into scissor sisters-I don't feel like dancing!

I'm a firm believer in making the first dance special to you. A good starting point is having a listen through a list.....it'll give you ideas. But at the end of the day its important to do it the way you want and choose what suits you.

We so nearly had Happy Together as our first dance, it's always been ne of our favourites. We ended up having it as the last dance of the evening, which was really nice.

We went for Natalie Cole "This Will Be" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oghCdl7fkBo Which was great, we wanted to get everyone up dancing and in the party mood (we got the DJ to ask people to come up and share our first dance), it worked really well, the dance floor was never empty the whole night!
