1960's

shelnat, 30 December, 2010 at 21:49 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hi. We are having a 1960's theme in 2012 along the lines of Audrey Hepburn style rather than the flower power era. Any ideas would be recieved gratefully.

Ooooh i could have fun talking to you, my wedding also in 2012 is a Tiffany & Co / Audrey Hepburn theme, i came across this dress whilst looking for idea's. Don't know if it's along the lines for your theme but here's the link.

As someone who was lucky enough to have spent my teenage years in the 1960's (and had a ball!) here are a few things which immediately come to mind from those days!

The Beatles and the rest of the Mersey sound

    Mary Quant

The Who (Everything black and white, circles, targets, scooters etc)

    Twiggy

    Motown and Soul music

    Carnaby Street

Saturday nights at the dancehall dancing around my handbag - entrance fee 2s/6d with 3d for your coat in the cloakroom

Lager and blackcurrant (why can't you get this in pubs now like they used to with the big frothy head?)

    Backcombed hair

    Mini skirts

    Mini cars

Black over the top eyeliner - think Dusty Springfield

    White Lipstick

White patent lace up at the front knee boots with white tights of course!

    Panstick foundation

Maybelline blue eye shadow worn with 'twiggies' which were false eyelashes painted on with eyeliner - a fashion Twiggy started

    Mods and Rockers

Going to Scarborough at the weekend on the back of a Vespa scooter (Don't tell me mam!)

    Blokes in parkas

Blokes in double breasted pin stripe suits

    Blokes with back combed hair

Leaving school at 15 and walking into a job that had been already arranged for you by your Youth Employment Officer!

Working 6 days a week for £3.10s.0d but the average house price in those days was £500

Catching the last bus home on a Saturday night and god help us if we missed it as my Mum would be waiting with her arms folded (last bus was at 10.30pm!)

Snogging on the back row of the flicks (cinema now!)

Buying your first packet of fags - No6 which blew your head off

Queueing up at Woolworths for the latest 45 rpm record that was released by The Beatles which cost 6/11d in old money

Smooch time at the dance hall when the lights went down and the twinkly ball with the mirrored lights went on and all the blokes lined up on the edge of the dancehall ready to pounce on the girls for a smooch and a snog and hopefully to cop off!

I could go on for hours but I'm beginning to feel old now Smiley sad LOVED the 60's !!!

Sherrie, I love those mood boards!

Shelnat, have you ever watched Mad Men? The later series are set in the early 60s and are definitely worth a look for some style / atmosphere inspiration.

    Hello

I love this era! I've just finished a couple of new designs that I think would suit this theme very well indeed. But I don't have images to post on here yet.

However someone has already been in touch & one of them at least is being featured on a wedding blog in the next few weeks! Yay!

Sorry I digress, anyway what I'm trying to say is that I'm getting some better pics taken of them this week, so if you email me & I'll send them over. ****@****************.***

    Super list RF.

If it was me, and wanting it to be a classy wedding as well as themed, but keeping it within the means of most of my guests, I think you've got to go mod style.

Good luck, I'd love to see the results of this one

    S.

    Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for your link. The dress is beautiful but i'm not sure that I am brave enough to wear it though! Hope you plans are coming along nicely.

They certainly were ? !!!! I think it was because we were the first generation who weren't affected by war in our own country and having to 'make do' with things as they were. There was so much going on in the 60's that every single year was like a new century things moved so fast! Not just music and fashion but politics, inventions, standards of living, opportunities to travel, breaking down of barriers that would never have been dreamed of before. Just a great sense of freedom and adventure!

You could name your tables after cult 60's TV progs or films..?

Z Cars, Dr Kildare, Forsythe Saga, Opportunity Knocks, Juke Box Jury, Ready, Steady, Go, Thank your Lucky Stars, Wagon Train, The Fugitive, Sunday night at the London Palladium

    or films...

Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, Life at the Top, The Family Way, This Sportling Life, A Hard Day's Night, Fistful of Dollars, Dr Zchivago, South Pacific, Lawrence of Arabia and many more brilliant films!

A lot of our wedding details were 'MOD' in style, we had a 60s style wedding.

Short 60s dress and lots of black and white , , , , , etc

For this and the original thread poster, have you considered having your wedding filmed on Super 8 motion film???? A real feel for that era.

Nice idea but not for us - we've put a focus on the photos and have elected not to have any kind of vog or motion filming!

As we love our scooters , I guess some would say our wedding was MOD inspired (although technically we are Vintage Skinheads, , ?)

Here are some pics from our day

and most of are friends wear 60s clothes all the time anyway, , , ,?
