1st & 2nd Class Stamps - Useful Tip?!?!

**Shelley**, 10 April, 2012 at 14:09 Posted on Planning 0 40

Hitchers!

If you can afford to, buy your stamps now before the price rise from April 30, the price of a First Class stamp for a standard letter will rise from 46p to 60p. ? The price of a Second Class stamp for a standard letter will increase from 36p to 50p ?!! It's certainly worth doing now if you got the dosh to do it!

No, they go up from 30 April 2012.

I got 40 last week but think I may buy 2nd class ones for the thank you cards to send out after the wedding.

I came across this article and thought it was relevent as some memebers are complaining that replacement SIMs are not being sent out 1st Class, as well as this, with Microgaff changing to 2nd Class stamps i thought i'd put this uo here.

I'm going to get stamps in the next couple of weeks even though the save the dates aren't ready, let alone invitations. Will probably buy them for those as well though.

I'd get buying pretty soon too, at work we keep running out, especially of 2nd class. I need to get into gear and stock up myself!

What a great idea! But one question, if I buy the stamps now, can I still use them next year?? ?

Yeah I think so! 1st class is 1st class! They used to have the price on them but not any more! Just "1st" and the Queen's head! Buy now, be smug next year!

So worth buying for those of us who need to send invites or stamp rsvp's! I bought 100 first but I think I'll get second class for the rsvps....

Just to say, it was on the news this morning, that Royal Mail are asking for a limit on the number of stamps you can buy in one go, or something, to stop people doing exactly this!

I actually didn't need that many, I bought 2 x 12 books of 2nd class a few weeks ago and don't really need that many now but will use them on something eventually! I got an extra 5% off too, not that it was much of a saving on the amount I bought!

I think that is just applying to retailers (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/royal-mail/9201272/Royal-Mail-limits-supply-of-stamps-ahead-of-price-rise.html) but I could be wrong. I hope I am right though - I don't much fancy being capped and shall enlist family members to buy stamps if that is the case!

Ahh I need to buy my stamps this week as we will need a lot.

Stupid question but does anyone know if a typical invitation counts as a "large letter"? I don't think we're having any ribbon or anything to bulk it up but there might be a few sheets for info etc and I have no idea if that goes over the 5mm thickness.

Ah okay, so for example RM will only provide say Superdrug with a limited amount but then people can still buy lots of them just means Superdrug would be sold out for while? Is that the right jist?

Yeah, I think so. That was my reading of it. I think personal customers are ok still. Even if not, then I will probably arm my mum with enough money to get some more stamps ?
