2 best men??

tizmelou, 27 February, 2012 at 12:19 Posted on Planning 0 27

H2B has said he can't choose between 2 friends so wants to ask them both - he reckons it will be fine but I just can't see how it will work - any ideas? Anyone else done this?

I have come across this quite a lot and think its rather lovely and also never seen it being a problem. My boyfriend was a joint best man and he and the other best man organised a brilliant time for the stag in barcelona and both of them did speeches. My boyfriend was the grooms best friend from school while the other best man was the grooms best friend from uni so they both had some great material for the speeches Smiley smile

    Hi

My fiance is having 2 best men. He couldn't decide for quite a while but then he decided on his old schoolfriend and one of his closest friends in college.

I'm looking forward to hearing the best men speeches to be honest ?!!!!

I've been to a wedding where they had two best men. One did a speech because the other was too nervous, so he was in charge of rings and signing the register. They just divided the duties between them.

I think its becoming quite common to have two best men nowadays. I've been to two weddings in the last three years where there have been two best men and tbh it didnt feel odd at all. Things just ran as they normally would.

We are having 2, OH is having his brother and business partner as he couldn't choose between them. It is good as his brother is a bit more introverted so he has some support on the day.

My h2b has three! - his two best friends plus his bro (who I'm now on calling 'Chief Bridesmaid', lol!). I think it's quite nice and I don't really think it matters, especially as our wedding will be quite informal / diy anyway :-)

    Hi

We've covered a fair few weddings with two best men, and a few have had three! Traditions are there to be broken, have your day the way you want it ?

My h2b asked three friends to be his best men after a lot of beer and getting very excited about the wedding. I don't mind and it would be difficult to "downgrade" any of them to ushers, but we're struggling to think of enough things for them to do as obviously only one will sign as our witness and I think three speeches would be too much. Any other responsibilities we can dish out?

You could always have one doing the speech, one in charge of the rings, and the other as your witness? The weddings we've had with 2 or 3 best men, they've tended to do the speech together, so they do a different section each so it takes the same length as time as if just one of them did it.

Hmm, we haven't thought about it in depth if I'm honest, though I expect h2b's brother would be a witness and / or will be in charge of keeping any family politics & children in check on the day. One of the other two best men is quite serious, so he'll (hopefully) be the boss of getting h2b there on time and rings. We'll have to think of some duties for the third. As for speeches, we're not planning to have a formal sit-down meal with lots of speeches, but if any or all of the best men want to say anything, I guess they can split a short speech between them. Maybe we need to have a think about it a bit more now I think about it though...! <scratches head>

We are, OH has 2 best mates, there is no way he would be able to pick one over the other, so has asked both. Very coincidently, and good news for us, when being asked, one mentioned doing a speech and one assumed doing a reading, so thats the roles sorted too!

We're also having two best men. Same situation as many of you above - OH simply can't choose between his two best mates. I did try to get him to have two ushers instead (we currently have one) but he wasn't keen, and I'm having 3 BMs so it's only fair - I wouldn't have been able to choose just one BM!

They are pretty similar characters but there is definitely one I would trust with the rings more than the other. They have both known my OH since he was little to the speech(es) should be interesting...

My OH is having 2 best men - our son (who will be nearly 13 at the time) and his best friend. His best friend will be doing most of the traditional duties, but M wanted to ask Little T as biologically he's his stepdad and wanted Little T to be a big part of the day...but Little T decided he is too big to be a page boy, so now he's a best man. M's best friend will be doing the speech and Little T will be deciding much nearer the time whether he wants to make one too.

It's really common. My OH has two as well, and they're sharing all responsibility- planning the stag trip, making the speech, etc. Why wouldn't it work?

I've never heard of or met anyone who's had two. I guess it's not uncommon though, judging from this thread!

I had two and I got married back in the 80s......so I guess that I sort of started this whole thing up. Vicar was a bit thrown by the idea although adapted to it...

It actually sounds like a great idea having 2 best men. Share the responsibility between them, hopefully nothing gets overlooked that way!
