2 months to go, and I don't know what I'm meant to be doing!!

Suzie88, 7 June, 2014 at 14:53 Posted on Planning 0 10

Oh, gosh! Time is just flying!!

Yesterday marked 2 months to our wedding, and I don't in the slightest bit feel prepared! I think mainly because we are also renovating our house at the same time, so are currently living with my parents, I'm just on full on panic mode that nothing is going to be ready!

So, a little plea, can you read through our completed and to do list and see if there is anything major that we have missed off or really need to get a wiggle on with?

Sorted:

Venue

Registrar (final meeting organised for 2 weeks - they said it was fine that it was less than the 8 weeks stipulated)

Food: breakfast and evening

Drinks: welcome/breakfast/toasts, then paid bar

Dress (mine!) Shoes and veil

BM dresses (sort of! But that's a whole different story - I've posted about it recently!)

Mum's dress (this was a massive hassle!)

Hair and make up (although, i think I want to change my make up from my trial a little, as I want it to be a bit more subtle)

Men's suits hired

Rings

Photographer

DJ (for the whole day)

Invitations all sent

Place cards (well, only for those that have replied because I'm being stroppy)

Chair covers hired

Hotel booked for the night before and the night of

Honeymoon flights booked, and half the hotels sorted

Centre pieces (almost all sorted!)

Card box

To do:

Work out what readings we actually want!

Sort out music for the ceremony (and any requests/banned songs)

Nag the men to get their suits fitted

Find some wedding underwear that I actually like!

Find flower girl dress

Chasing all RSVP's

Making guest book (half way through)

Making signs (need to learn to paint or at least write neatly!)

Finish making place cards

Book hotels for the part of the honeymoon that just isn't organised

Talk to FSIL about flowers and really hammer down that it is about what we like, not her tastes…..

Find a centre piece that represents Vietnam

Buy a Bonsai Tree

Buy mini pom poms

Buy sparklers

Hire a bouncy castle

Finish making 1000 paper cranes and work out how to attach them together (600/1000 so far)

Make a table plan (when people bother to RSVP)

Persuade OH that he does actually want to think about our first dance, and maybe have a practise (or at least agree on a song!)

What am I missing? I feel like it is going to be something huge!!!

What do I need to hurry up with? Other than the things I am already panicking about?!

I'd definitely chase up people who haven't replied to your invitations. Did you give them a RSVP date, is that nearing soon? As soon as you have all your RSVPS in then you can get the table plan done

I'd also look at hiring the bouncy castle soon and booking hotels for honeymoon

Other than that, are you prepared for your honeymoon, ie new clothes, vaccinations if needed?

Nearing…. Past! It was April 26th!!!! Hence the strop over making place cards for only the people that have bothered to reply!

I'm not too worried about the bouncy castle, as we get married on a Wednesday, and that's not exactly a peak hire day!

Honeymoon is pretty sorted, have clothes, will travel. I think we are basically vaccinated against everything possible, and we're not going off the beaten path for the first time ever, so we don't actually need to worry! Hotels: I think the biggest issue is that we don't really have a plan about where exactly we are staying and for how long, so once we sort that, we will be fine. If not, we will do as we normally do, and just find somewhere on arrival! (organised!)

Honestly, I don't get why people don't reply properly and on time to wedding invitations!

Ooh wednesday wedding, not heard anyone get married on that day before, how come you chose the day? I know its cheaper not to have it on friday or saturdays

Where are you going on your honeymoon?

Sort of by accident! We were looking for a Thurs, as our venue is more expensive on a Fri and Sat. It had to be in the summer holidays as I teach, and I wanted it near the beginning of August so I had a week or two to get my classroom ready and be prepared, and have enough time for honeymoon after. Which basically put our date as the 7th August. But for some reason, that date just didn't sound like our wedding date to me!!

H2B jokingly said that we could always get married on Weds 6th, and it just stuck! It works out one year and one day from the day we got engaged, and thats it really.

The 6th sounded like it should be our wedding anniversary, regardless of the day, so that is our date!!

Honeymoon, we are off to Iceland and Canada, so no need to worry about my beach bod!! More likely to need waterproof trousers and hiking boots!

How are all your plans going?

My plans are going well so far- got most RSVPS back, in the last week we have sent out some more invitations in place of people that have said no, we are looking at 50 people during the day, and around 30 more in the evening. I had my first dress fitting in April, and BM dress fittings are at the end of June. Hair and make up trials are booked, florist, photographer booked. My sister who is my MOH is making my cake, and we have all our decorations sorted, we are having tealights in birdcages and lanterns for the centrepieces. Colour theme is cadbury's purple

Thank you presents for bridal party? Bridesmaid accessories? Favours? I get married 6 days before you and feel massively behind schedule too but our lists look similar....except I still havent sorted chairs yet. We have finally decided on our reading and music but still finalising vows.

Suzie88 I'm in the same situation as you! Renovating a house, living with my mum and 7 weeks too go until the big day!

I'm also struggling with choosing Hymns and readings, my Priest has been trying too help me, but there is so much too choose from. I'm slowly getting there my RSVP's aren't due back till 28th June, seen as I have only just sent them due too some problems.

I think everything will come together in the end, just keep writing down ideas and things that come to you so you don't forget them. Not long now!! Xx

Nothing to add but thought as I read the list that if you are getting married at the venue your registrar will need details of the readings and music. Ours have sent us a long form to fill in which has to be sent back at least 8 weeks before the day. If you are getting married in a church I guess there is more flexibility around it.

This is part of the meeting in a couple of weeks, they have said we can check it through then thankfully! If we had to send it off at 8 weeks, we would be in trouble as we have made no decisions on any of that!!
