2014/15 wedding - venue help!

mrandmrsH, 22 March, 2013 at 15:35 Posted on Planning 0 3

Ok, so were got engaged in December 2012 and haven't really set an official date but aiming for a 2014 wedding - 2015 if df gets his way!

The problem is, neither of us drive so getting to see venues is an absolute nightmare, as is the fact he works nights and i work days and we only get 1 day a week together on a Sunday (if I'm lucky). I've been searching online for venues but am clueless as to what the packages really include, how to add up "per head" prices and venue fees and when i should do all the booking etc! I know i will have to visit some, hopefully when the weather is a bit better, but i hate how they put on the "hard sell" when they call and don't leave me alone if i request a brochure, i feel like I'm being harrased!

We like in Bexley, Kent with his family over in Basildon and Canvey Island, Essex and mine in Bexley, with a couple in St Albans so need a venue everyone can easily get to. I've looked at a few online; Rowhill Grange, Cooling Castle for Kent and Marylands, Warley Golf for Essex as they dont seem too far out. Our budget is £3000, so not much, but i don't want to get into debt and we will have around 30-40 days guests and 60-70 evening - so not a big wedding at all.

A lot of places are so expensive! It all seems so overwhelming, but I'm the first in my family to get married so i have no one to ask how to do this! I want it to be simple!

Please, if anyone has any suggestions/venues in my area, let me know!!

Ideally work out your per head prices for your day guests and the total you are having in the evening. The venue should help you with working these out if you are confused. The main prices you need to think for your reception venue are any hire charges for the venue, wedding breakfast costs per head, reception drinks per head and evening buffet costs per head for the evening.

Look at loads of different options as your venue as sometimes you may be surprised at places you may not have thought of before.

I would start looking to book as soon as possible. I left it a bit late I think as I rang to book my venue two weeks ago and they only had a few Saturdays left in 2014 so I havent had a choice of my date really I had to take what was left.

When you go for a viewing they will follow up with a more detailed quote based on your requirements. The information sent to you prior to that is generally just a guide, do not be afraid to haggle and negotiate, if you are getting married in non peak season (July/August) or during the week things are generally cheaper.

I know a few people on here have had weddings at a holiday inn I understand they were doing a £1000 wedding package, also discount sites such as groupon often have discounted wedding packages.

    Hi,

My daughter`s wedding was at South farm, Royston and it was fantastic. well worth visiting or attending their tasting evening as we would thoroughly recommend it. My other daughter had hers at Old Drayton lodge, norwich, which has a marquee. again a fantastic venue.

    Hope this hepls

Getting married on a week day will lower costs. Cooling Castle is a lovely place, in the middle of no where though if i remember correctly and also the bride comes down a staircase (just remember being worried in case she fell) Rowhill Grange is beautiful but in my opinion a tad over priced.

What about the Marriott Hotel - they do some fantstic packages.

    Westerham Golf Club

    Tudor Barns in Eltham

    Turkey Mill in Maidstone

    Hall Place

    Brands Hatch Place

    London Golf Club

Not sure if any of the above are in your budget but worth a look. Hope this helps.
