2nd interviews - Any Tips?

Mrs T, 14 January, 2009 at 17:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I've managed to secure a second interview for tomorrow afternoon, and i've never had to attend second interviews before. I'm meeting one of the same people from the first interview and someone i haven't met. Does anyone have any tips for second interviews, ie thank you for seeing me again..... anything else i should be saying?

TIA.x

When I conduct 2nd round interviews, I'm looking for someone who has REALLY done their homework on the job and why they want it and are suited to it. You need to demonstrate you've done your homework on the job / company and why you really want the job.

I also look for someone who has plenty to ask about the role - it shows lots of interest from you which is important.

I also expect people to be more confident in 2nd round interviews - I think nerves should have gone a bit from the 1st round now that you know they're interested in you. Be confident and assertive in what you say.

    Good luck!

In our company when you get invited to a second interview it's because we like you and have to get a director to approve the appointment before we make an offer. The fact that they're investing time in you means they are very interested so that should give you confidence. Like Brontolo says, make sure you're well prepared. Good luck! Let us know how you get on.

For us second interviews are about having got to the point where you think someone is a match and has the right base skills and then wanting to dig into these in further detail

I expect a person to be much more comfortable because I'll be asking about their skills and giving them the chance to show their experience and so on - it also tends to be much more friendly because you are exploring common ground

I have no tips or help to offer - so many years since I did the second interview thing - life was easier then! - but I just wanted to wish you all the luck in the world, I know how much this means to you.
