2nd Time around/ Dress is to much?

Nutsy40, 4 September, 2008 at 21:49 Posted on Planning 0 52

I am getting married at the grand old age? of 43. Its my second marriage, the first was 23 years ago.

I am starting to feel that some of my family members and those of my H2B think that I am overdoing things with my outfit.

My MIL2B was shocked I was getting married in an ivory wedding dress, think they thought a pastel shade was more appropriate 2nd time around.

My Sister thought the same and said, after I had ordered my dress!, she thought I would have went for something a bit more "low key".

One of the girls I give a lift to work was also surprised! when I showed her a pic saying she didn't think I would have went for a "proper dress".....she did say it was nice though..........and now my SIS in law to be said she "didn't expect me to wear a veil but each to his own" whatever that means!

Am I being paranoid?

Anyone out there over 40 and were married in wedding gown? Do you think they mean my age or just because its my second marriage?

My initial reaction was stuff them! but now as the wedding grows closer I am starting to wonder?

    Eh...................

    STUFF THEM!!!!!!

pastel my arse! That was fine and appropriate in the 80s...... but you wear whatever the hell you want! You wanna wear an ivory dress then just go for it!

I am rolling my eyes at your relatives!

Do you have a pic of the dress? My dad remarried last year and his wife is late forties (47, 48 i think). It was her first wedding and her dress was ivory, beaded and embroidered (from memory, slightly hazy!) although it wasn't a full dress, more straight up and down IYKWIM. I don't think it particularly matters what age you are, as long as you feel comfortable wearing it.

    You wear what you want.

I think years ago you were expected to wear a beige two piece on your second wedding but this is 2008 & times have definitly changed.

I expect to see pics now.?.

My sister wore the same dress to both her weddings ?

They were 10 years apart & skinny moo still managed to fit into her dress perfectly.

Wear what you want to wear, don't take any notice of others & don't get bullied into wearing something you will look back at your photos and regret

I love it.........maybe I'm just getting paranoid......reading to many bridal mags me thinks......all the brides look 21 and freash faced☹️

It isn't usual for me to worry that much what others think.....worry what H2B will think........hope he doesn't expect me to walk in with a pale blue suit ?

Hell no don't wear that! Give it to me instead and can I have your stunning figure as well please! ?

You have no reason not to wear it. I thought from what you were saying it was going to be a princess dress with a million layers but I think it's very elegant and classy - just perfect whatever your age but I think it's a really good choice as it's still a proper wedding dress without being ott. Right so I'm going on a bit now but seriously don't have wobbles. Wear the dress and be proud.

[runs back to look at the pics again and be jealous]

Is it a gorgeous dress made even more gorgeous with your figure and I think all these people are probably just jealous that you can carry it off. You look much younger than you said as well.

I wanted to add my compliments and agree with everyone else you look stunning and the dress is gorgeous. My marriage will be my second and I am wearing a ivory dress complete with tiara and veil. First time around i only had a blouse and blue panne velvet skirt which a relative made for me, this time around I was determined to wear a dress. Last year my mil2b got married 2nd time around and she is in her late 40's and she wore a beautiful pale gold dress with ivory trim and she looked beautiful. I would definately go for it and don't listen to your relatives they don't know what they are on about!

Beautiful dress I like it a lot, the beading looks exquisite.

I'm getting married on Saturday - bounce in celebration of that ? - and I'm wearing a blue dress. Not pastel baby blue but bright teal blue and when I told people I'd chosen my dress they'd say "Whats its like?" and I'd say "Blue". They'd always say (without fail!) "BLUE????!!!!". It was v funny and I think some people coming might think I've been joking all this time - can't wait to see their faces!

So IMO sod everyone else, wear what you want - I am and I'm so excited!!

I got married in 04 for the 2nd time and i was 36 , i worried the same as you but on the day it didnt bother me i loved my dress , mine was bigger than your too , and btw you dont look 43 , there is 43 and there is 43 , you can so carry that gown off and i think you look fab .

sod the family members and what they think and say , you always get bitching at a wedding and tbh if you had gone for something non bridal they would prob be asking you why not , you cant win sometimes

I am a bridal shop owner and do loads of ivory dresses for brids in their 40s, and much older. Wear whatever you want - it's your day.

And the one you have picked looks stunning on you - very elegant

Oh, you look amazing in that dress. As the others said, you MUST wear it.

I'm 35 and getting hitched for the second time. I considered wearing a 'colour' but I'm so excited to be marrying my lovely boyfriend (and its his first time) that I wanted to look like a 'proper' bride. Its ivory, just a bit less 'poofy' that before.
