I am getting married at the grand old age? of 43. Its my second marriage, the first was 23 years ago.

I am starting to feel that some of my family members and those of my H2B think that I am overdoing things with my outfit.

My MIL2B was shocked I was getting married in an ivory wedding dress, think they thought a pastel shade was more appropriate 2nd time around.

My Sister thought the same and said, after I had ordered my dress!, she thought I would have went for something a bit more "low key".

One of the girls I give a lift to work was also surprised! when I showed her a pic saying she didn't think I would have went for a "proper dress".....she did say it was nice though..........and now my SIS in law to be said she "didn't expect me to wear a veil but each to his own" whatever that means!

Am I being paranoid?

Anyone out there over 40 and were married in wedding gown? Do you think they mean my age or just because its my second marriage?

My initial reaction was stuff them! but now as the wedding grows closer I am starting to wonder?

You look amazing and must wear the dress!

I'm getting married on 4th October for the 2nd time, my partner hasnt been married before and when i said i would just buy a nice outfit he was not happy. He said he wanted to treasure his bride in her wedding dress in his mind for life and i was like WOW, ok then. So just think what you H2b will think when he sees you, everyone on here thinks you look great, what will the love of your life think?

Relatives are great, when i sent the web link of my dress to my sister she said she wouldnt have worn it if she was my size (ouch). My father asked why i was wearing a dress when i have 10 year old son....as if that has anything to do with it.

    WOW again.

    Sx?

Just wanted to say a HUGE thanks for all your support........I feel so good about the dress now! I will walk up that aisle with my head high and my chest puffed out now. Gawd knows I need to puff it out a bit....being slimmer helps with some things but you aint got no filling for the dress? chicken fillets my fav friend.

I feel a bit daft now putting the post on?

Normally I would take yr attitudes but you feel a bit vulnerable when its sooo important to you that you look good on the DAY......cameras scare me to death! I also have two boys in their 20's so I want them to be proud of their mum too......great kids but have their momments like the rest.

The dress is from Pronuptia "Rita".......had scoured the bridal mags n shops......saw it on their website and dismissed it straight away as the photo on there is awful!.....looked very dif in real life and was a lot cheaper than other similar styles in other shops.

    Cheers?

Can I just repeat what everyone else said - you look amazing in that dress.

I'm 27 and I tried Rita on yesterday - and you look wayyyyy better than me in it. I love the detail and lacing on it. Its so elegant and a little sexy at the same time.

All the best and I hope you have a wonderful wedding day.

How annoying!!!There are no rules to say that certain ages shouldnt wear a 'proper'dress and nor should there be!!!!

Ok it might be your 2nd marriage but unless you marrying the same man again its your first time with this man and should be as special a day as anyone elses.hiws about when people renew there vows 20 years later, they often wear a big proper dress sometimes because they couldnt afford it first time ound.

If you feel great in your dress as you should wear it.Ignore all the negativity its 2008 not 1908!!!

No probs. I am the same as you, regret not wearing a dress first time around. It was in a register office and everyone who I saw who got married in a register office seemed to be wearing a skirt and jacket and no dress so decided to go for the blouse and skirt. This time around it is in a hotel and it will be h2b first and we both decided we wanted it to be special and wanted all the trimmings. I feel everyone should have what they want on their special day. Blimey I remember C&A!

I was pregnant when I married for the first time 12 yrs ago, didnt want any fuss , had 4 ppl at the wedding and a meal afterwards that was it. I wore a maternity suit in pastel..... marriage lasted 4 yrs...... have a gorgeous daughter.

About to remarry in 6 weeks time.... I cant wait !!! ..... for me this is my first wedding, I am having the dress, bridemaids, page boy, ring bearer , reception and evening do... the whole lot.....

I am now 34 a few sizes bigger now then I was back then (even though I was pregnant) but I dont care, I am all excited about my wedding and I dont care what people think about if I am over the top, its my wedding, I am paying for it and I will have it the way I want it.

I got married in July this year. I was my 2nd time but Hubby hadn't been married before so wanted the big white wedding and to be honest this was so different this time round that I wanted it too. I am 48 and worried about looking like mutton dressed as lamb. I had a diamond white dress which is actually off white but my MIL kept insisting it was white. In the end I thought just go for it and to hell with what anyone else says.

In the end everyone loved the dress and I had the most fantastic day. Here is a link to the dress if you want a peek.

Found this thread 2 years on. How did you get on? Did you wear it? Hope so. I'm in that position now, trying to decide what to wear. It's a dilemma. The photos of you don't seem to be available anymore. ;-(

    Hi there

Ditto except Im 44, second marriage also, its this Friday and Im wearing a wedding dress which is probably much more "weddingey" than my first one.

Dont let anyone spoil your big day by doubting whether you should wear your dress - just go for it!

Im sure you will look stunning.

Dont think the age thing or second marriage comes into it at all!!
