firsttimemum, 8 May, 2009 at 14:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

I am probably doing this all wrong but i have the starter and dessert sorted but not really sure what to serve as the main meal !

Starter

Champagne Risotto with asparagus spears wrapped in parma ham on the side

Dessert

White Chocolate and Raspberry Torte

Vanilla poached apricots (for the non dairy eater)

So i need a main meal to go with it only proviso no dairy

Is it for something really special?

Champagne risotto and asparagus spears wrapped in parma ham on the side is a heavy starter tbh (have you thought of doing that as the main course?) so it will need to be something fairly light, especially with the chocolate torte for pudding. How about some sort of salad? I had a gorgeous chorizo and sun dried tomato salad a few weeks ago, which was lovely. You could add some sort of chick peas or other pulse too if you wanted, or just serve with some lovely artisan bread.

I think the risotti sounds like it could be a main meal in itself! Just my opinion but I would probably lose the parma ham.

What about fish as a main? Maybe sea bass stuff with herbs, baby potatoes and rocket salad? Or a fish pie? In not fish then maybe chicken cacciatora with herby courgettes?

Your dessert sounds lovely though, can I come?

I agree, that starter does sound a bit ... well, big. I'd do asparagus or risotto, not both.

Last night I served plain steamed asparagus with home-made mayo as a starter and it went down incredibly well.

If you did that then you could have something a bit special like duck breasts with morello cherry sauce for your main course. I'd serve that with roast new pots and steamed leeks and broccoli.

With your menu I'd probably do salmon as a main course.

Salmon fillets cooked in foil parcels with feta, black olives and tomatoes is one of may fave receipes. You could serve with whatever else you fancy.

Thanks everyone, mrs magic its not a special occasion we are just playing come dine with me!, I think you are right, its a bit heavy - i wasnt going to serve lots of the risotto in order to keep it light

Am liking the idea of a light fish , new potatoes and nice salad main

WEES- the starter sounds a bit much. I'd do asparagus with hollandaise instead (you could do vinaigrette for the non-dairy person).

I'd suggest fish too, lightly pan fried with new potatoes and salad or steamed veg, maybe sea bass, salmon or mackerel.

Was wondering why no dairy as presumably the starter and dessert have dairy in or was that why?

Thanks Champagne, my H is dairy intolerant so the risotto wont have cheese and he will just be having the poached apricots

I am definitely being swayed to the fish option

mmm looking forward to it now
