3 months to go and I have sickening feeling that....

MrsWinwood2B, 30 December, 2009 at 19:09 Posted on Planning 0 8

...we've spent far, far too much on our honeymoon. I don't even know how it got to the figure it did, but suddenly our final payment is due, and it's £3500 on top of the deposit of £800, and that doesn't include food or spending money!!!!! It seems an insane amount for a holiday, and I just feel really sick about it. I know there's not much I can do, barring cancelling it and losing the deposit, but I just needed to vent. I spent all last year clearing overdraft and credit cards and now I hate the thought of putting more expense on the card. We'll probably use some of our gift money to pay off the honeymoon, but eeek, it's such a lot!

Also, my hairdresser has said she can't do our hair on the day, as the shop is closed and she isn't insured to do it herself. I don't know any other hairdresser in the area. Any suggestions for good come-to-the-house hairdressers in Bournemouth/Poole area?

Can't help with the hairdresser but just wanted to say that it may sound expensive for a holiday but honeymoons are ALWAYS overpriced. as is anything which is remotely connected to the word 'wedding'. where are u going and for how long? just think of it as a once in a lifetime experience and it's something that will keep you going when the wedding stress is almost too much to bear! and also the place and time where you 2 will bond as 'husband and wife' for the first time. i always worry about our costs going up, but my OH keeps reminding me that we want to have lovely memories of this time so it'll be worth it in the long run! and you will definitely get some money as gifts that u can use for food n spending...

Ohh, I know it sounds a lot, but it will be such a memory - and you're bound to get loads of money. Bear with me on the hairdresser - my parents live near Poole and have someone come to the house. Will ask and get back. x

It does sound a lot but its done now - enjoy it!! Think of it as a once-in-a lifetime thing.

about the hair -have you asked your hairdresser if she knows anyone else who will do it? I think just asking around may help, pit the word out your looking, on FB and text friends etc - someone must know somebody.

I don't think you can spend too much on a honey moon, its the one thing in the whole wedding process that i wouldn't mind blowing the buget on!!! its purely for you and your new hubby spending some special time together and you can't put a price tag on that.

it is a lot of money but that depends where your going and the how nice the hotel etc is. if it was a few weeks in somewhere fairy ordinary it is a lot of money, but i'm guessing for that price its somewhere very special, once in a lifetime holiday, so don't stress about it, when you're there it'll be worth it!! anyway

Mrs W2B - have got the number - do you have an email I can send it to, if you're still interested? I'm not sure whether she does bridal, but you could ask.

Thanks so much for your comments. I do feel better about it now - we have the rest of our married lives to save and be sensible, so yes, it is an amazing honeymoon (Iceland and New York) and I will just forget the cost and enjoy!

Brideseekingblush - thanks so much for your help re. hairdresser. My email is ******@************.***.
