3mths to go...and cancelling our venue

IshouldCoco, 4 June, 2012 at 20:31 Posted on Planning 0 27

They've just given sub standard service from the off really. We booked 9mths back before they'd gotten their old manor house function suites up and running.

4 events managers later they are going back on priced that were agreed when we booked in.

That teemed with the terrible customer service and call backs etc... followed by news that one of my partner freinds has *changed* their venue to go there 7wks before ours has just made me call a day on it all.

Looked elsewhere today, but we're outpriced on everything now it seems. Found a nice hotel not far from Liverpool, but it would mean just having a buffet and cancelling the wedding breakfast fully to keep to our budget.

Pointless post, just wanting to moan ?

I have to say that's very brave but if you don't feel you'll get the day you want then it makes sense.

Can you do something like an afternoon tea or BBQ instead of a buffet to make it a little special?

That's a real shame and I feel for you. Do you not have something in writing about the price they've agreed previously? Can you walk away at this short notice and it not cost you anything?

I did the same thing - when it's not right it's not right. Could you have a garden party with a buffet or a hog roast, or a BBQ like RVS2B suggested? We're having a BBQ and I can't wait!

Oh no, so sorry. Can you claim on insurance or anything? That isn't right that they are going back on what was contracted. I don't think they are allowed to even if they have changed management. Are you going to try and keep the same date if you go for another venue? I'm just thinking if you could score a last minute deal or something.

Are you looking around Liverpool? This place are doing mid-week weddings for £2012, but it's a bit further out in Southport - but no idea if it's anything like you want to go for. I went to see it and liked it. http://www.thevincenthotel.com/wedding-occasions/venues/

I've been venue hunting around Liverpool area before we booked ours if I can help give any guidance at all to ease your pain!

Thanks for replies, ladies. Have to say I don't feel very 'brave', the overwhelming feeling of *nothing* when faced with having the day there has gripped me now.

Because of the difficultlies we've had the first venur have actually offered us a full refund on the small amount we'd actually paid (£150). Which is sporting of them to say the least I suppose...

I have however gone into a deal with a venue dresser to dress said venue (£1000) and booked entertainment to suit the place and a master of ceremony too.

Thanks, for the link, it looks nice there! It's the opposite end of Liverpool to us and would probably be too far. Plus OH is one of ten and are bare bones (family only) day numbers come to 70 odd....

Ohhh, mann, I'm seriously bummed out. Is it even worth it?!

Just to say the date (Sept 15th) is our 6yr anniversary so we're desperate to keep in with that.

We just got a scrap of paper when we booked, I queried it and it was apparently written in diary...no really details though. The lady today was as helpful as she could be, but we would still have to pay a couple of hundred extra for buffet and the drinks we had arranged would have to be changed too. Bottom line is that I don't trust them now, so back to the drawing board I guess...

It will be worth it! It's the venue who have mucked up, but wherever you choose to have it, the people you love will still be there and more importantly, your OH Smiley smile I had a look at the venues I looked around the area and most of them are actually closer to Southport or Lancashire I'm afraid. But some of those closer to Liverpool are (in order of personal preference) Thistle Haydock, Liverpool Marina, Thistle Atlantic, Haydock Racecourse (we spoke to them, never actually went to see it). Hope that helps a little? I'm still hoping maybe you can score some kind of deal with them if the date is free Smiley smile

Can your suppliers do the same thing for you but just at a different venue?

The Crowne Plaza near John Lennon Airport is advertising on Hitched how they can plan last minute weddings and that they have some deals available for 2012: https://www.hitched.co.uk/wedding-venues/crowne-plaza-liverpool--john-lennon-airport_3484.htm

Hitched has a 'late availability' venue search function, check there first. Then prefix all of your google searches with 'late offers/last minute deals' or something similar. You should be able to get a great deal 3 months prior to the wedding, but it will take lots of time as you obviously want the wedding on the same date? Presumably this is a prerequisite based on the fact that you have other suppliers already booked for this date?

I am so sorry you are having all of this trouble - just push on through though, by the weekend I am sure you will be all set with a short list and clear 'idea' of what your new day will look like, and then you can enjoy having a stroll around a few venues and finally booking somewhere. By next Monday, I bet everything is sorted for you.

? to you though, this is not a fun thing to have to do. Make sure you get your friends and family in on the search too - so you don't feel under so much pressure to do it alone.

Sorry to hear about your having to look for a new venue at such short notice. I'm not much help sorry as not in Liverpool area but I do feel for you, as we get married the week before you & I'd be in a complete spin if we had to make major changes now, so think you are coping really well.

Hope you get something sorted soon x

Just been reading another thread from a Liverpool bride as well. This place seems lovely!

    https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/merseyside-maritime-museum

This thread might be useful which contains the above venue: https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/t/297589.aspx

Hey, guys, thanks for all taking the time to read & reply, it's appreciated!

Yes, we are set on are date, not only as the cars/venue dresser/MC is booked, but as it's are 'anniversary' anyway.

Alot of what has been mentioned has been rung in the last 48hrs and is already booked up. We're on a tight 6k budget for literally everything for the food and venue need to be around 2.5k ish.

Just seen the Marina and it looked great (amazing prices on 4 courses and drinks), but sadly, alas, that's booked too *sad face*

Waiting to here back from the Everglades in Windnes/Cronton tomorrow as we really liked there, but were quoted 4.3k for sit down and buffet. Looking at prehaps hot day buffet and mini fish & chips, bacon/sausage barms in night time to keep costs down.

Thanks again, you're all lovely ?

I hope you find somewhere suitale. I can't imagine cancelling and starting again with only 3 months to go! Good luck, hope you find the perfect place.

Oh, I'm not worried (or I'd have starred it myself ha!), just surprised me that anyone would be bothered to rate, nevermind kick me when down ?

Anyhoo, I'm off to the Everglades Hotel for a meeting with events manager before work. Hopefully have some good news later. Thanks again everyone.

Hiya, Yes, it's meant to be great there, they didn't return my calls though!

We've decided on the Everglades now, they're come down over 1k and we've comprimised on a package for 80 day/120 night, plus a few added extra and bridal suite!

It's £800 more than last place, but it's for more people and menu etc is better. So I guess we were lucky, we actually wante here a year ago, but wrote it off as it was too expensive ?

Just need to inform all suppliers of change. So for the Toastmaster has made me feel like a t**t, but apart from that is going okay.

Need a DJ now though is you know of any!?

We did similar - cancelled with 5 months to go - and for similar reasons. Higher prices than agreed, extras added on, and unreasonable demands. We are now at our local village hall. Not fancy, and we've had to hire catering and hire cutlery/crockery/glasses/linen, but I'm happier with the whole tihng.

The final straw was saying we'd be in the upstairs PUB like, an hour, in my dress and stood about whilst they change the room round?!
