50's wedding - London

Gingerlover, 4 October, 2011 at 18:16 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi guys,

I am planning my 50's style wedding for next year. On Saturday 8th October this year, me and my chef bridesmaid are hitting London to take a look at some dresses at Vivienne of Hollaway... we are due to spend the whole day looking for wedding ideas in London (as we are from a small town in Lincolnshire we are very excited)... does anyone have any recommendations as to where we should go?

Thank you

I'm loving the dresses at Vivienne of Hollaway... in my price range too.

I should have said I don't really want to spend more than £300 on the dress and petticoat.

I've seen the Candy Anthony website but they look a bit expensive for me.... The more money I save on the wedding the more I can spend on my backpacking honeymoon!!! Smiley smile

Oh my honey has lots of inspiration and very good links too. I want a 50's style wedding but i also want to incorporate butterflies and a colour theme and it just all seems too much to try and co ordinate so i have just gone for the colour and butterflies theme now. In saying that i have bought my wedding dress it is tea length and was a one off from roman originals for £80 great bargain. So think of stores like that too.

Another one too is honeypie boutique they have some affordable lovely dresses too.

    Good luck x

    Thank you all so much.

I have seen some great ideas for wedding dresses but the thing that is really put a stop to things at the moment is by husband to be's suit.

He wants to rent a baby blue tuxedo, and his grooms men in a different colour tux. Do you know of anywhere in london that rents bright coloured tux's?

I have seen the website brightcolouredtuxedos.com but they do not rent to UK Smiley sad

Without this decision I cannot do anything as the colour theme revolves around this..... and to think I want to marry this man!!!! arrrrrghhhhhh!!! Smiley smile

As suggestion and making things a really nice day out while you are down here how about going and seeing 'Dreamboats and Petticoats' ?

Its a musical set in the 50s, lots of lovely costumes, its fun and may just give you some insperation.

    Hey Gingerlover,

VofH is awesome. My wife had a VofH dress and it worked out really well, she loved it. We looked at Fur Coat No Knickers and Candy Anthony first though and they were both incredible. VofH was so much cheaper and she really liked it. The sizes are a bit weird and I had to do quite a few alterations to it.

OK. Your OH's suit. I don't really have much of help for this one. If he is looking for that Dumb and Dumber look then you are better off looking at fancy dress hire shops or even costume hire places. Theatrical hire maybe? TV/Film hire places? Ebay?

I am reasonably sure suit hire places will not have anything suitable, you may be able to get something in those types of colours but it would be more a contemporary wedding suit. Anthonys Formalwear in Billericay may be able to help for those types of suits.

I would suggest the best places would be in the U.S., I am sure I have seen things like this whilst in the U.S.

Good luck to him, he is considerably braver than I! but I am sure it will look cool/quirky/fun/geekchic on the right bunch of guys.

    Marc

    Hey hun

I got my wedding dress from cutting edge brides. It's in Dartford but absolutely fantastic for 50s dresses and other slight;y different dresses!

    Have fun!!

Unfortunately I am not based in London, although my parents are still there, but wanted to post as I make a lot of my vintage button bouquets for fifties style brides.

This is my most recent one. The bride had a pink netting under her skirt to tie in with the bouquet.

Hope this gives you some more ideas ?
