53 days to go and just started planning!

lilitaylor, 16 June, 2009 at 17:15 Posted on Planning 0 20

I'm almost 7 months pregnant and had decided that I wasn't going to get married till after the baby came, but last week I did a complete u-turn. Wedding is set for the 8th August. We're on a pretty tight budget, but fortunately my parents have offered to pay for the venue and catering for the reception.

I'm suffering quite badly with hayfever so real flowers are out of the question, but I've seen some nice silk bouquets so I'm not too worried, although any examples or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What I am worrying about is the centrepieces. We're having 9 tables and a top table at the reception, I can't really aford more then £15 a pop for the table decoration and was wondering if anyone knew of any bargins.

I thought about making my own, and would still considor it, but I'll be 4 weeks from my due date when I get married and my partner is very worried I'm taking too much on.

I want a blue colour scheme as we're having a boy and the chairs at the hotel are blue. I could cover them up but they are stunning and tbh it's just another expence!

Thanks

Lisa (and bump)

How about a big IKEA vase with a candle in it? Cheap and easy to do, but will look stunning!

Hello and welcome by the way ? - you brave, brave lady!

    Hello and welcome! ?

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Have you thought of using a simple candle centrepiece, maybe floating candles in a bowl or something? Or some candles on a mirror? Candles would be much cheaper than fresh flower centrepieces!

It is indeed, i'll be 34 weeks on the day itself. My partner is enjoying feeling superior imensly, he's suggested we get married before the baby comes since we found out, but I assured him that I wasn't bothered. I've got loads of help from my family (who i think are pleased that we'll be wed before baby) and a couple of our friends are getting married soon as well so have loads of advice.

Hello and welcome, you will get there, and have a great wedding day.

We had Ikea base centre pieces, if I can make it work this is what they looked like

It would look good with blue candles too! The vass were 70p each, the candle hollders about £7 per pack, then I added twigs and sparkles which I got from various cheap shops.

    Good luck

    Michele

Wow ... you don't do things by half huh!!! Welcome, congrats on all counts and you've come to the right place!

There was a recent thread about silk flowers v real, and there are some pix and also good advice from Sherrie H (Aisle Be Yours) which you might find interesting ...

Check out the for sale board on here - you might find something that'll help with your centrepieces. You could easily do a nice church/pillar candles/mirror decoration for way under £15 per table and they can be super stylish ... you can coordinate your blue in with some blue table crystals or confetti (if your venue allows them) or for a cheaper option, blue ribbon wrapped around the candles and pinned with a diamante headed pin .... or even get blue candles and use ivory ribbon, or mix and match! They're also a nice little gift to give to some of the ladies at the end of the night as most ladies like candles!

Hi, wow you don't have long left to plan!

I had vases (from Wilkinsons in the end) and candles at my wedding. Sand in the bottom to keep the candles from leaning, and dried (or maybe they were paper?) rosepetals sprinkled around the base of the candles.

They looked pretty good, I think.

If you're looking for a photographer, I have a great network of local (London-ish) photographers with whom I share a calendar so I can recommend people who still have dates free in August, if you'd like?

That's so exciting. In some ways it will give you more focus doing things a bit last minute.

If you are looking for a photographer I am based in London and currently offer a credit crunch package for £500. For this I would shoot for 3 hours - anything from reportage of the ceremony to group shots ad portraits of you and your soon to be husband. I then deliver all of the images to you high resolution on a DVD for you to print your own album etc.

Do let me know if you are interested and we could talk more about what you want etc.

If not, best of luck with all the planning!

    Stefan

    Hey pet!

I had silk flowers as we got married away from home, and they were amazing and very real. no-one knew the difference. i'll try and post a pic for you. Also they didn;t cost the earth! I also found that if you tell suppliers your budget re the table decorations they will work with you. Good luck!

Thank you so much for all the advise.

Planning has already hit a wall as on friday I was admitted into hospital and they thought there was a chance baby would make an apperance. Thankflly everything seems to be ok, but I'm being told to take it easy.

This weekend I hope to get alot sorted out so that the pressure is off. My sister is coming to help, as is my mum and my fiance is off work and has promised to sort everything out at home so that during the week I just keep off my feet and relax.

Congratulations on the wedding...and the baby too!

There's a section on money saving tips on www.thebridalfile.co.uk, I think they've got a few tips on flowers that are probably worth a look. Otherwise you might be able to save in other areas?!
