6 months to go *flash* and Disney planning thread!

Hi all!

I am just a few days past my 6 months to go landmark so thought I'd do a little flash and also start a planning thread! And as the title suggests, it's Disney!

So a bit of background first. I've been with OH for 5 1/2 years. We met at a football match at Wembley as we are both Villa fans. His brother and my brother were friends and arranged to meet up at Wembley so we got chatting. Took us a while to admit we liked each other and 5 months after meetings, we went on our first date. We have been best friends ever since!

We are both a bit geeky (him more so) and we love stuff like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones etc so one we were engaged and starting wedding planning, we really wanted to incorporate our interests as much as possible to make wedding very 'us'. We are big Disney fans and his 21st birthday (before we were together) was a Disney themed fancy dress party. After much deliberation, we decided to make the wedding a Disney theme!

We are getting married in the Lake District (we live in Birmingham) and this is the venue -


Jeez that's big, sorry! Don't know how to make smaller!

Anyway, this is the ceremony room that will be the wedding breakfast room too. I've only got a pic of it set up for the meal. The window behind the top table has a view of the lake and fells.


We have decided that the ceremony will be non-Disney but we will incorporate the Disney into the breakfast onwards. We are aware that there is a fine line between subtle and tacky and we are trying not to cross it but we may have done a little bit! We don't want it to be too subtle.

    Anyway, so the tables are going to be named after our favourite Disney films. My fave is beauty and the beast and my OH fave is Peter Pan. We have decided to name the tables after the places in the films, rather than the actual films. I.e the Peter Pan table will be called Neverland etc.

    My phone won't let me upload pics now for some reason! I'll post pics of table ideas as soon as I can!

    We have decided to have 2 cakes - one depicting my fave film and the other with OH fave film. They are going to be a bit novelty with characters etc but you can't go too subtle with the cake really! We've found a great cake maker who has done Disney wedding cakes before and she is really excited about making ours so fingers crossed.

    Our card/gift table is going to be from the film Up. So we will have a post box just like the one in the film with photos and bit and pieces that are 'us' just like the mantelpiece in the film.

    So that's all for now, until I can get my photos to upload again!

    Ooh is that Lodore Falls hotel? If so, my friends got married there a few years ago & it was beautiful!

    Aww I love it all! We're both Disney kids too and got engaged in Disney world so we're sneaking in a few subtle references here and there!

    We've got a Paradise Falls money jar from up instead of a wishing well, and for thank you gifts for my two bridesmaids I've got them both necklaces, one with a thimble on and the other with an acorn like the kisses that Wendy and Peter gave to each other to represent their friendship Smiley smile I can tell that this thread is going to be one to watch!!

    Chapples - it's not the Lodore no but we did look at that place as a potential venue. It came close but in the end, we opted for this one. It's the Daffodil Hotel in Grasmere. It's currently closed for refurb after the Cumbrian floods and doesn't open until July so fingers crossed its all ok by October 1st! I've never been more glad that we didn't go for a spring/summer wedding!

    Emmy1102 - those are great gift ideas! I'm glad you can appreciate the theme because it's not everyone's cup of tea.

    Also forgot to mention that the whole Disney theme is being kept a secret until the day. Only the MOH and best man know (and you guys!). We just thought that we didn't want people to get any pre-conceived ideas about what the whole thing is going to be like. They will be walking in to the wedding breakfast with Be Our Guest playing in the background and we are hoping it gets people giggling and having a good time.

    We're from Birmingham too, but I love the idea of getting married in the Lakes! Disney was one of our ideas as a theme, so I'm kind of jealous haha Smiley smile
