6 weeks to organise budget Easter wedding from scratch...

lozenger, 25 February, 2012 at 21:52 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi all,

Oh Gawd, what have I done...Well I booked my wedding yesterday on a package deal - 50 daytime, 100 evening guests £2999 inc 3 course dinner, wine, bubbly toast, DJ, buffet etc.

I have borrowed the most beautiful champagne coloured dress from a friend, fits perfectly thank god, got perfect match shoes. Booked groupon deal photographer for £349, burgundy bridesmaid dresses from BHS £65, designed online invites - now what else do I need?

As it's on Good Friday, I have found some gold Easter Eggs at £3 a pop from Aldi, shoved some cream roses in the top at £3 a bunch...see pic - what do you think? Guests can demolish them after dinner!!

I am south manchester-based - I guess i need chair covers, flowers anything else? Do I provide tea lights for the tables? Oh god I need - a cake...!!!

Considering I used to photograph weddings, I don't seem to have been paying much attention, I think the practicalities all used to drift over me whilst I was busy taking arty shots with candles etc...

Any tips gratefully appreciated - we want minimal fuss and cost really!

    Wow congratulations!

You don't necessarily need chair covers, it depends on what your venue looks like and personal taste really.

Whether or not you have tealights dpends entirely on whether you want them or not.

Some things you didn't mention so don't know if you've sorted them - rings, suits for OH and any ushers etc, any accessories for yourself - veil etc - or bridesmaids - jewellry etc -; favours if you're having them, cars if needed, hotel room for you and OH night of and day before wedding if needed....

Erm can't really think of anything else as the moment! Good luck!

Cheers Peppr Potts - OH is wearing charcoal grey suit he had bought for him as a best man last year so it's only been worn once - I guess i would need to get him burgundy tie to match BM dresses? Hotel room is included, ceremony & 'do' all in the same hotel as we're all staying so no need for cars. Rings we are getting with our Tesco vouchers from Goldsmiths... (we have about !50 tesco vouchers they are worth 3x that at Goldsmiths...!!)

Has anyone had a cake from M&S? All suppliers I contact seem to think I am insane, but I just can't get my head round why it should all take so long...

edit... sorry new here -why is this txt so small ??

Congrats!! and Wow on such quick work....

WSS but interested also in what you plan for a cake? If you are ordering one that should be the next thing on your list, even if you are considering making it yourself. Do you have much of a budget?

Do you have a style you fancy? What date does it make your wedding??

I think most important thing is not to panic and enjoy the albeit quick, planning Smiley smile

ps I adore your table decs, what an amazing idea!

The registrar - you'll need to book an officiant to conduct the service and you'll need to give notice of marriage

(i'm assuming its a civil ceremony as opposed to church?)

If you are getting married at the venue you need to get registrars booked asap. If a civil ceremony you will also need to give notice and you need to think about doing that very soon.

There's always good old M&S for cakes, easily decorated with flowers. I hear they are very nice.

If you are looking for tealight holders I advertised some on hitched a while ago. 76 for £40 and I visit Sth Mcr regularly!

Haha thanks dana - Wedding is on Good Friday - I have no ideas for cake at all - me, my OH and son never eat cake anyway (my lad is allergic to eggs and my nieces & nephew are coeliac) I am laughing my head off at the table decs - literally popped in Aldi for some milk an hour ago and spotted the Easter Eggs - my son just ripped them apart to 'taste test' the chocs and they have his approval. I just thought tho - if the afternoon guests destroy them will it look empty for eve do? I suppose I could just shove the roses into a little vase or something or leave half an egg-shell?? et voila...

(ps - what does WSS mean?)

Dana - if you have a local church OAP or toddler group that does coffee mornings you will be one extremely popular gal if you pop in and ask their opinions!!

I take my hat off to you - I think what you're doing is great! Don't worry about what suppliers think; it isn't mandatory to have a planning period of 2 years!

I love your centrepieces and that fact that they tie in with your wedding date.

I've read good things on here about M&S cake, in fact there was a thread about them the other day: https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/p/291070/2745843.aspx#2745843

Good luck and enjoy the rest of your planning!

    Hi Lozenger

With regards to the flowers, why dont you buy some glass cubes and fill with the cream roses you mentioned( or tulips as its easter)you'll prob need more than one bunch for each cube and the second picture has 'wax flower' in with the roses. You could also use 'Genista'(Broom) instead of wax flower as its only available in spring and has the most fatastic scent...it comes in white,pink,yellow,lilac...

You could then place votives around the cube on the table.........They are very simple to do.....

    I hope this helps ?
