7 weeks to go and starting to panic!

WhiteSparkles, 22 February, 2011 at 07:59 Posted on Planning 0 6

Is it normal to feel the following when the wedding is just around the corner-

  • Pangs of anxiety that come from nowhere
  • My tummy does somersaults whenever I hear about the wedding
  • Constant worry that I have missed/forgotten something
  • Thoughts of 'do I want to do this?' (Just so you all know I really do want to marry OH, I'm just terrified of all eyes on the two of us for the day!)

And I keep having the most horrible dreams that the day has arrived and I have not had my hair/makeup done or my dress altered and forgotten to buy gifts for the bridal party! Last night I dreamt that I was drunk and falling down before I even got to the church! Disaster! It's gotten so silly that I have woken with a coldsore this morning ☹️

I thought wedding planning was meant to be so much fun and exciting...

I think most people would say that what you're feeling is very normal. A lot of us underestimate the amount of stress a wedding is, particularly if you're not the sort of person that feels comfortable being the centre of attention.

The most important thing to remember is that as long as the person officiating the service turns up, your h2b turns up, and you have two witnesses (even if you have to drag them in off the street), that's really all you need to get married; no big dress, no suits, no flowers, no food, no DJ, no car etc. It's very easy to get involved in all the arrangements surrounding the wedding and lose sight of the actual wedding itself, and particularly the reasons you're getting married in the first place.

My suggestion? Spend an evening with your h2b, ban all wedding talk, curl up on the sofa and watch a film sharing a pizza or something, and remind each other of the prize awaiting you at the end of all the run-up, stress and hassle you're experiencing Smiley smile

What AJ said. I think its normal to feel like that. I'm a worrier to fully expect to experience similar emotions when my wedding gets closer. I think I'll purchase some rescue remedy though in the hope it will calm me down!

I also second the non-wedding-talk evening with your OH. Have a chill out and remember why you are doing all of this.

Yep, all completely normal. I find that having a list (or several spreadsheets!) helps me feel sure that I've not forgotten anything and then I try to relax.

I know it's hard but try and enjoy your last few weeks of planning.

Appreciate messages! My OH is living abroad so we don't get chance to cuddle up- he won't be here until the week before the wedding! Think that's another reason for the stress, I'm having to do most of it on my own! I decided to have a wedding free day today and just spent it with my baby girl and our friends. So nice not to have to worry about it. Just as long as those dreams don't come true!!
