8 weeks, 56 days, 1353 hours - you get the picture!

Caz73, 23 July, 2011 at 04:47 Posted on Planning 0 36

Firstly many congratulation and best wishes to all the B2Bs and their OHs getting married this weekend.

I am not a new hitcher but I suppose I've not been an active one, posting only a couple of times and that has been a while ago. Partly this is because my OH is a regular hitcher and so my comments often reflect his or the other excuse I have is that I have a very busy full on job which takes up every moment of my working day and sometimes evenings too! My OH said to me that with forums you get out of it what you put in and I know that is the case with Hitched. It seems to be a huge network of people in a similar situation - bouncing ideas, thoughts and concerns off of one another and although I'm not convinced that I will have time over the next 8 weeks to get heavily involved in posting, my thoughts are with you all and my view may get posted via my OH discussing with me what is going on in the world of Hitched.

I have over the last week got more and more involved with reading posts on here albeit while my other half has been signed in, but don't worry I have not posted in his name lol! I have loved seeing the wedding reports and looking at the flashes of wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses. I am not in a position to post any pictures of my own bits and pieces as I do not want OH to see anything before the big day, much to his frustration.

I cannot believe that in 8 weeks time I will be walking down the 'aisle' in our hotel towards my new life as his wife and the scary thing is that I'm sure it was only yesterday that we had another 20 days added to that countdown timer - where does the time go? I am also hoping that in 8 weeks time I am not still awake at 4.45 and I manage to get more than 2 hours sleep, my excuse to this is that OH has given me his manflu but as he put it about 2 hours ago when he realised I wasn't in bed is that you have just a cold! Typical, eh?

You will have seen that my OH and I have had a productive few days making favours while "enjoying" perhaps that should be "subjected to" some rather soggy holiday weather on the south coast. I think the next big things that we/I have left to do is the table decorations which my younger sister is helping me with and dress fittings with my bridesmaids which I must set up with the shop in the next week or so!

I have my hen night next Friday and I know my OH is really apprehensive about it and I have assured him that all will be well but he is a worrier and no amount of me telling him it will be ok will put his mind at rest, until I text him to say "I'm home and safe and now you can sleep, my darling!"

Oh well I suppose that as the sun will be rising shortly I really ought to try and get some sleep!

Just in case this is my last post before the big day, good luck to all of you that are getting married between now and the 17th September and I look forward to reading your reports!

    Mrs AJ? Smiley smile

Sorry you didn't have the best weather on your holiday, but you definitely made the best of it - your favours were fab! I hope you get lots of lovely comments from your guests.

Time flies doesn't it? I have less than year to go now. When I got engaged, 2 years felt like ages and now with less than half of that time left, it shows how quickly the weeks come and go.

Are you caught between enjoying the planning and wanting time to slow down, but being so excited you wish you were getting married tomorrow? That's how I feel most of the time Smiley smile

I hope you have a relaxing few last weeks as a 'miss' and enjoy your hen night!

    Keep in touch Smiley smile

Rumbled - yes I am Mrs AJ to be!

It was indeed however as you say the favours got done and thank you for your lovely comments.

I most certainly do feel like I wish it was tomorrow but then I want to say "slow down" I want to double and triple check everything is in order. I am an organiser and so everything has to be just so. I was devastated when we found out that we couldn't get into our venue the night before (someonelse is getting married) to decorate the rooms and I did have a bit of a bridezilla moment as AJ can vouch!

The best bit of advice I can give you is that; start planning your day as soon as possible and don't leave it until the magazines, books or forums tell you to (sorry Hitched), we were so pleased we got the invitations out as early as we did, my work goes crazy from January to June every year and if I was planning the wedding too, I would not have given it the attention our big day deserved!

I look forward to reading your progress as your plan your big day and I will endeavour to keep in touch, who knows I may even post about the hen night with a few pictures! If not AJ and I will be back to report on our wedding in due course.

Hi im also getting married on the 17th september and stressing about things when i am trying to get to sleep at night about the smallest of things like what evening invitations to choose.

my oh says just choose what ever ones u want and order them but thats easier said then done when u want everything to be perfect.

Firstly, take a minute to breathe and relax! I know that's easier said than done when you think that all these things rest on your shoulders, remember when you are on here you are not alone. I am very lucky with my AJ and the fact that he wants to be involved with everything and if he could that would include all the dresses and shoes etc.

Have you tried explaining to your oh that this isn't just your big day but a big day for both of you and that you would really appreciate some input from him and that his attitude is not helping you feel any less stressed and that this is affecting you sleeping at night! Sometimes men are completely blind to how their nonchalant response impacts greatly on us.

What are your day invitations like, do you want them to be similar or completely different? If oh really doesn't want to know, why don't you bounce your ideas off of us (the collective Hitchers) I would be happy to help in anyway that I can and I know AJ would be more than willing to give you input from a male perspective.

    Hope that helps.

    Chin up!

    Thanks for the welcome.

I'm sorry I couldn't possibly ban him for a whole week or even a day as I'm back to work on Monday and how else would I find out the antics of my fellow hitchers if he is banned?

All will be revealed in 8 weeks!

A couple of the ladies on here did ask if they could see intimate snaps of me so I had to put them straight.

The bits I was talking about were jewellery, tiara, veil, shoes etc.

Thank you abigiggle1 it is nice to 'meet' you too. I know that AJ is unique with being a hitcher and so I knew it wouldn't take people long to guess who I was.

I hadn't realised there is as many of us getting married on 17th September as there is! Definitely is coming round fast, but I'm sure there is still plenty of time to do your favours, what are you favours consisting of? Good luck with assembling them, give us a flash once you get round to doing them.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I hope all the comments were nice ?

Tbh we hadn't really thought about doing separate reports but as AJ just said he won't know what goes on in the getting ready bit and so it probably is a good idea for me to report on that and hopefully our interpretation of the day is similar apart from his and my getting ready.

I hope to be able to post more now that my silly season at work has slowed a bit or at least I hope it has.

natw0603 - typical guy reaction! Well my offer stands if I can give you any help, you know where I am.

Toaster and Toast was AJ's idea, I cannot take the credit but we thought it was a nice touch!

Hope to catch up with you during the week.

    Bye for now

... and, of course, whilst she's upstairs relaxing, being pampered and getting ready, I'll be the one downstairs setting up the ceremony room and wedding breakfast room, sorting out things with the hotel, being disturbed as guests arrive and want to say hello, then trying to get changed in the disabled toilet just before the registrars arrive - having checked all is well with the photographer, dealing with any lost guests that phone up having turned "the other left" and ended up at a picnic spot instead of the hotel (there's only about 300 so it won't be hard to figure out...) and in fact just plain old worrying about where are our respective families etc on the assumption that all is well upstairs and the hair/makeup person has arrived, the bridesmaids have turned up and are up there etc etc.

She gets the night before in a luxury room all to herself at the hotel, with a full english breakfast taken to her room - and I'm sharing a twin room in a travelodge with the best man and going to McDonalds for breakfast on the way to the hotel (having reloaded everything into the car that we had to take out the night before in case someone decided to brick the car window and help themselves).

Oh, and did I also mention that someone's having a wedding on the friday in our hotel so we aren't able to get in until 10am at the earliest, leaving me 3 hours at most to do the room decorating.

Do you have ushers/ family members who can assist/ do this for you? As you say the groom is just as important as the bride and deserves some down time. On the day of our wedding I just want my OH to chillax and enjoy.

Will the venue not set up most of the room? Can you not delegate to other members of the wedding party?

There are indeed a few available "helpers" but I still need to make sure everything is right as my b2b and I have planned it to be - as I said, we can't get in on the evening before to set up so it all has to be done on the morning, and she'll be unavailable which leaves it to me to sort out - or we win the lottery and can get a professional in to do it for us.

Obviously the hotel staff will be laying out the chairs and tables etc to our requirements anyway, so really all we have to do is decorate the ceremony table, set up the music equipment for the ceremony, the row ends, decorate the top table, put the table centrepieces together and put everyone's placecards etc in position. We then need to put the mirror tableplan up, set up the candles for the ceremony, put the 'reserved' seat notices in place, and put the favours out on the table for later.

I know there are various tricks like putting everything for one table in one box, and we'll no doubt be sorting through that in the weeks to come.

The venue are doing the majority of ours, but we'll be taking it in co-ordinated turns to make sure everything is ok and that the finishing touches are right.

You seem very bitter about being "left" to do it, can you recruit any friends/family to give you a hand?

Can the helpers set up then you can pop down to ensure it's how you want it. At least it will give you a little "you time".

If I was your B2B, then reading this would have me in tears...

I know this is probably just a rant, but you do seem very bitter towards her. I'm sure you're taking things to extremes - I've seen grooms before their weddings and this is not how I'd describe them!

Not bitter at all, just irritated someone else booked their wedding in our venue the day before! I guess it's just a big responsibility to carry and, yes, there will be people to lend a hand but as I said ultimately it'll rest to me to coordinate everyone to get it all done.

Our hotel set up everything, place cards, table plan, favours, kids boxes... Mr C went to the gym, got dressed then went to the pub!

You sound resentful AJ... she gets a full english, I get a McD, she gets a nice room, I get disabled toilets...

Leave it to everyone else if you want to relax and feel special too, then do a final check to make sure all is ok and in keeping with your plans.
