80's Theme party - your help needed!

gill670, 10 January, 2009 at 22:15 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

We have decided to have an 80's party . H is going as Tony Montana(scarface) but I am stuck and can't find anything good in the fancy dress shops! Loads of people are going to do Madonna so thats out! Any ideas?

We have decided on cinzano ,martini, babysham so far for drinks and having 80's bands on the walls aswell as the athena posters.

Can anyone think of anything else we could do?

Where can you get really good 80's outfits?

How about going as a kid from Fame? Power dressing with big shoulder pads is very 80s. Goth chick is pretty 80s.

The last 80s party I went to, I dressed up as an 80 year old, complete with a dodgy head scarf, hand-drawn wrinkles and a handbag full of werthers originals. There were lots there with big hair and blue eyeliner, from what I can remember, if that appeals more!

When I went to an 80s hen do everyone was madonna, fame etc with blue eyeliner and back combed hair. We did manage to get our friend an 80s wedding dress and some rollerboots, we pushed her around all night.

Why not go for something a bit different like Margaret Thatcher, or a Yuppy with a massive brick mobile phone!

What about dressing as Debbie Harry? Little black dress, killer heels and blond wig with bad roots ?

Do you actually have to go as "somebody" - if not a long "Blondie" tee from ebay, leggings and pumps/heels. I bought the above for our 80's theme bbq- that was cancelled due to the monsoon weather last year ..bah.

I thought the blokes were far more striking in the 80s so I'd cross the gender divide and go as Adam Ant in his 'Kings of the Wild Frontiers' days - braided jacket, frilly shirt, breeches, knee high boots, tricorn hat and lots of war paint. He's one of the first images that springs to mind when I think back to the 80s. That or early Boy George. Or Steve Strange from Visage with his very distinctive makeup. Men were so pretty back then. ?

Toyah could be quite good fun if you don't mind lots of hairspray and bright orange/red hair colour. You'd have to lithp for the entire evening though. Cyndi Lauper was along the same lines as Madonna but with better clothes and funkier eye makeup.

H and i went to an '80s party a few years ago, and we went as romos, was great. i had a crushed velvet purple dress with funny gatheredness which i nicked off my mum (an original ?) and i got h to submit to eyeliner and mascara, he wore black trousers and a white shirt with a ruffle down the front, and all his hair (he had long blond hair at the time, bit kurt cobain as a male friend of mine said) pushed over his head in a crazy side parting.

he looked well fit, actually ? shame i couldn't say as much for myself ?

Dont know if this is what u are lookin for, but...

Best outfit i have seen recently was two girls dressed up as Mario and Luigi. Are they technically 80's?

One girl in green and one red. Striped over the knee socks, boob tube, blue "dungarees" but cut off like hotpants and matching hat with M or L on it.

Hard to describe, but looked amazin

I had an 80's 30th birthday party and it was fab! My H was Adam Ant and I was Madonna so a bit blah! sorry. As it was my birthday, I did have a huge Rubics cube style cake, it was a real talking point.

We had an 80s-themed murder mystery night recently. My mum was Paula Abdul (black wig, black dress, thick make up), my aunt was Tony Basil (cheerleader outfit), my sister was Debbie Gibson (denim shorts, denim shirt, black waistcoat, black hat) and I was Cyndi Lauper. I bought multi-coloured hair extensions from Claire's Acc, a bright tutu, wore lots of bright plastic jewellery and make up, and Doc Martins.
