A bit worried about the safety of our guests!!

Wife In Training, 2 September, 2014 at 20:59 Posted on Planning 0 10

Has anyone used tea light baubles like the one pictured below before?

We've bought them to hang from our centrepieces and decided to test one out tonight but the bauble gets really hot!! Like to to hot to touch hot! Now I'm concerned about our guests burning their hands if they decided to handle the baubles and for the safety of the venue staff who will be replacing the tea lights when they go out!! Am I being a health and safety freak or do you think its a genuine issue?!

A bit gutted because we've bought 36 of them!! ?

Sorry !!! Looks and sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. IF your venue will even allow them.

You can get led tea lights that look good

My thoughts exactly! I don't want our wedding being remembered for injuries to guests!

I'm not having much luck with candles!! Our favours for ladies are Yankee sampler candles in those metal pails which obviously get hot as the candle burns. Our guests will know to put a coaster under them when they light them at home...won't they?! Or do I need to put a note in to remind them?! I think this might be the start of my first bridezilla melt down!!

MELT DOWN ? You got candles on the brain - or you have been sniffing one to many yankee ones

Just get the battery LED ones they look quite realistic some even flicker

I agree, LED lights from amazon, country baskets or even poundland are the safest bet. They last, some flicker and you can also get coloured ones to match your theme. They are ideal for the baubles (nice choice, the baubles look great hanging from twigs, wishing trees etc). Don't fret about your favours either, your looking way too much into things. I work in the wedding industry and can say from experience that your choices are lovely ?

Sorry to state the obvious but have you asked your venue if they will allow you to have them? Chances are, if they are as hot as you say they are, then the answer will be a definite NO. A lot of venues have clauses in their insurance policies that disallow anything along these lines due to fire risk as well as Health and Safety issues particularly with venues that are listed buildings, barns or olde worlde.

I agree with the others to get LED lights. You only need one person who has had a little too much to drink to knock one over and you can guess the rest!

Flickering LED ones would definitely be the best idea IMO.

I am having these on an archway that a florist will be decorating/bringing in. The will be hanging from the archway and we will stand in front of it during our civil ceremony. I hadn't thought about them being hot but it makes perfect sense. The florist says this is popular (and they do look lovely!) but i am hoping noone will interrupt my ceremony to come and poke them. If they do and they get burned i might be secretly pleased...?

I agree with the others about electric lights, they may not be exactly the same as flickering candle light but you don't want your wedding to be remembered as 'the time everyone burnt their fingers poking the centre pieces...' If people are stupid enough to poor booze into goldfish arrangements at weddings (I have been to one such wedding but wasn't a booze pourer i promise!) i presume it is likely they will poke hot things!

Thanks everyone! Definitely going to scrap tea lights in the baubles in favour of LED ones now! I don't want to set fire to anyone or anything! I'm going a bit far fretting over the wedding favours though aren't I? Surely people don't need me to tell them that flames + metal=hot!!
