A Canadian needs your help!!

Vanessa123, 9 January, 2010 at 05:09 Posted on Planning 0 21

Hello everyone!

I need anyones help in locating a reception and ceremony venue in London for May 3rd 2010. I have been having some troubles trying to find both venues in my price range, which is approximately 1300 pounds, especially since I am from Canada. I am looking for a venue that has beautiful scenery so that I can have the ceremony outside. My wedding party is very small, 5-20 people, so I need to find a place that will allow such a small wedding party.

If anyone has any suggestions, it will be most appreciated!

Thank you,

Vanessa

Is 1300 pounds for the venue only? or is that for the entire wedding?

H hun, did you realise that in the UK the ceremony has to be in a fixed building, this could be a wooden summer house but they can't be in the open air in a wood for example unlike in America (and presumably Canada). I hope this helps, however you have already known this.....good luck with the search

    Hello Everyone!

The 1300 pounds is for the venue only. The total wedding budget is approximately 7000 pounds...its a small wedding budget because the Canadian dollar is quite poor against the UK pound. For instance, the currency exchange rate as of today is 64 cents Canadian per 1 pound.

Sorry, forgot to mention where in Canada I am from, I am from Edmonton, Alberta.

When I was doing some research, I noticed that all weddings civil or spiritual ceremonies must all be with in registered buildings. I am hoping to find a place where we can have the reception indoors, but have the ceremony outdoors... hopefully in a garden, but at this point, I'm not too picky.

Also, I do think I should mention that this wedding will be more of a humanists wedding than a religious wedding due to so many requirements of having a legal wedding in the UK. However, I do want the same wedding structure as a normal legal wedding, just minus all the legal document signing,.... we will deal with all that when we return to Canada.

    Thanks for your replies!

    Vanessa

    Hi

Does it have to be in central London or outside? I'm a wedding coordinator and know of lots of venues that could suit your needs. London can be really expensive but outside in what is called the home counties maybe more suitable. Let me know what you are looking for and I hope I can help

Vanessa mentions London, although if she were to have the ceremony in Scotland, then the rules are relaxed about the location of the ceremony.....

Regarding London...or just outside, Bush Hall Hotel in Welwyn Garden City has a gazebo for the ceremony (on page 2 of my website)They will do good prices for non weekend weddings and have some decent grounds and a Mill Stream with bridges.

I am scanning my brain for a venue in Edmonton, London for a bit of continuity.......

A website that really helped me is http://www.wedding-venues.co.uk/ - u can register with them and they send u venues that they think u might like (hope its the right site!) can also try http://www.funkyweddingvenues.com

not sure about prices, but kensington roof gardens is in london and can have weddings there (though i think the actual ceremony has to be inside?) http://www.roofgardens.virgin.com/en/the_roof_gardens/events/dream_weddings

beautiful scenery - Syon Park, RIchmond Park, Kew Gardens - but again I think all may be over budget and ceremony is indoors.

sorry actually not been of much help! xx

    Hello Kim31,

I have noticed that venues within London are much more expensive than venues on the outskirt of London. So I am looking for venues that are outside of London but no more than 2 hours outside of London.

Just to give you an idea of what I am looking for:

I am looking for a place where I can have the ceremony and reception dinner at the same location, where it contains a garden for the ceremony and where my guests can stay for a inexpensive price. The wedding will be a humanists wedding and I am looking for a place where they have good wedding packages that can fit well with a small wedding party of 5-20 people (not all RSVP have been confirmed yet). I will also need a location where there are services near by, such as photographer, hair and makeup, florists, etc.

Also, my wedding date is May 3rd 2010.

If you have any other questions about anything, just let me know!

    Thank you!

    Vanessa

Another venue that does deals is the Marriott hotel in Cheshunt. They have a gazebo in a courtyard area and there are some good locations nearby for the couple to possibly have a quick tour with the photographer for some alternative shots(If you know where these prime locations are!!!!!?!!!!) I could suggest Elizabeths florists of Hoddesdon who are nearby and truly excellent as well as a choice of three local hairstylists and make up artists. This is all relatively close to Stansted Airport and very close to the M25 orbital motorway which has access to Heathrow. This would all fit very easily inside your budget as the hotel does deals for £5000 weddings for 100 guests(so yours should come in much lower)....and its not a million miles from Edmonton UK (sort of home from home for you)

    http://www.marriott.co.uk/hotels/event-planning/wedding-planning/stnch-cheshunt-marriott-hotel/

That said, also check out Bush Hall (roughly midway between Heathrow and Stansted just off the M25 corridor)

Hi Vanessa if you've not looked already here's a link to the Humanist Society here in the UK with their fees and details of celebrants https://humanists.uk/ceremonies/non-religious-weddings/

and I found this venue in Berkshire www.sindleshamcourt.com and this is what they say on their website

"Ceremonies at Sindlesham Court take place in “The Berkshire” which, whilst non-religious, lends itself to the solemnity and importance of the vows you will be taking, with seating up to 300, and right next door to The Flavell Banqueting suite."

Hope you manage to get something sorted very soon.

Forgive me if I've misinterpreted but am I right in thinking it's almost more of a blessing you're after than a formal / legal wedding ceremony? In that case I would imagine your options are much wider open - I would think about contacting the humanist society as videogal suggests and see what they can advise. I don't know for sure but I would imagine that not needing a legal ceremony means you don't need to go somewhere that has a wedding licence?

(I'm in the North of the UK I'm afraid so can't really help on venues, sorry!)

    Hi Vanessa123,

Videogal mentioned the Sindlesham Court in Wokingham, Berkshire www.sindleshamcourt.com. You may find it is only half an hour's drive from Heathrow airport (50 mins from Gatwick airport) on normal run and wokingham is very well located for rail transport from London, if needed.

Of course, if you need a photographer locally, I am based about 10 mins from there. Noticed your wedding is on a Monday- you should be able to negotiate good rates for mid-week. Good luck.
