A cheap few days away

SillyWrong, 24 June, 2014 at 13:40 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

We have a week off in July and have still not organised what to do with it, needs to be something cheap because it feels like the next 6 pay packets are spoken for in our world already When I think back to little breaks we've had in the past that we've loved they usually involve cosy B&B's nice restaurants, Prosecco, pretty views, wandering around, afternoon teas etc. We love cities with lots of character (e.g. York, Cambridge) and also places like the lakes. Within a few hours of Manchetser if possible ... Just for 2 or 3 nights.

Any suggestions!? Anything from a general area to a specific B&B/Hotel/Caravan Park etc

Our lovely friends and family surprised us with a weekend here: http://www.canopyandstars.co.uk/britain/england/shropshire/walcot-hall/the-chapel after H had his cancer op. It was a beautifully serene lovely weekend and the Chapel is amazing! (Was on George Clark's Amazing Spaces too)

What about Oxford or Stratford upon Avon?

For cheap accommodation what about a youth hostel? you can get private rooms and en suite in a lot of them.

Or we've just booked a room in London that's part of a hall of residence. It was only £65 pound for the night including breakfast (which for London is amazing! ). Must be plenty of those sorts of things in Oxford!

We stayed here http://www.gorgeviewcottage.co.uk/ last December.

It was absolutely beautiful and really quiet and peaceful (although I imagine it may be more of a tourist trap in July). Cheddar itself is quite small, but we did day trips to Bath and Bristol Smiley smile

Amihohu thank you, I love every single place on that website! I'm seriously considering booking https://www.canopyandstars.co.uk/britain/england/cambridgeshire/the-island/the-arc - which is neither cheap nor close, but it looks so lovely!

I live in Gloucestershire and would totally recommend coming down here for a few days - Cheltenham is lovely, and Gloucester Docks is a lovely place to wander round on a sunny day. Further into the stunning countryside there is the Forest of Dean, the Malverns and the Cotswolds, where afternoon teas abound. Lots of trippy Cotswold villages like Stow, Burford, Broadway and Moreton-in-Marsh - probably quite expensive to stay there but it's free to walk around!

Only 2 hours' drive from Manchester on a good day Smiley smile

That place you like is really close to where I live SillyWrong. I can certainly recommend it as a nice place to visit and could give you some advise on places to eat and things to do if you do decide on it.
