A few questions regarding ceremony and etiquette

VikingPrincess, 1 April, 2010 at 17:38 Posted on Planning 0 1

Hi, all!

I was wondering if anyone could advise me on the following:

1. For a civil ceremony in a stately home, is it still necessary for the bride to have someone to give her away? Not only this is my second wedding but also my father lives abroad and is ill when traveling on the plane so it is not very likely he will be able to attend the wedding! Also, I do not have a close male friend who could do this (the only one I had has unfortunately passed away). Is it possible for my Mum to give me away or should we, my h2b and I, just both arrive together?

2. Table seating: who does usually, or can, sit at the main table with the bride and groom apart from their parents and best man, and bridesmaids?

Thanks!

Hi again - there are no set rules as to who can give you away and picking your mum I'm sure would be the perfect choice and I'm sure she'd be delighted to give you away. You can walk up the aisle alone if you'd prefer - I've seen that done many a time.

As for the top table it is usual for the bride, groom, groom's parents, bride's parents, best man, chief bridesmaid to sit on the top table but at the end of the day, its your wedding and why not opt for a non-traditional top table and seat whom you want there like your mum etc. x
