A hello and advice request.

Misschevious, 12 January, 2009 at 19:08 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hello everyone!! My partner and I got engaged over New Year and after a heady few days!! we are now busy thinking about our wedding plans.

The problem i have is when i was a young 16yr old i saw a wedding dress I fell in love with. It really was "the dress"!! I even tore the photo out of the magazine and saved it. Now years later im engaged and busy planning the perfect day and have realised that the photo of my dream dress has no details of which company/where i get it from/and how much it was!

i dont know how i would go about finding out who designed the dress, i have considered taking the photo to a dress maker and getting it made up but would i be infringing copyright laws ?

Any advice would be wonderful and thankfully recieved.

    Hi and welcome,

When I went to a dressmaker they said they wouldn't make a dress exactly the same but that if I took in different photos they would discuss how to bring different ideas together therefore creating a unique dress so could you perhaps do something like that?

I'd recommend going to try on dresses because what you think you love in a magazine quite often changes when you put different styles on and you might find you find another dress which is 'the one'.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Lynsey x

Anyhelp is wonderful so thankyou for responding.

Trying on differing dresses as you metioned just to see what suits and what really i like and dislike in real life is a practical idea, as you mentioned i may find something i wouldnt have normally considered is perfect.

I think i will also still try to somehow find the designer of the one in the photo, though i like the idea of mixing differing things that suit me in to one unique dress.

    xx

    Hi and welcome ?

congratulations on your engagement! i saw a picture of a dress in a wedding mag that i totally fell in love with, but when i went to try it on, it just wasn't right. the woman in my dress shop brought me a few other options she thought might suit me, and in the end i got one of those.

so i would do what purrfectgems has suggested - go and try a few dresses on. you might find that you suit something else better, or find another dream dress! plus it's fun! then, if you decide to get a dress made, you can take the best bits from each of the dresses you like.

let us know how you get on.

Can you scan the pic and post it on here?? We have all been viewing endless photos of dresses on website after website that someone may well recognise the designer..?

Definitely post a pic on here. Someone may recognise it, or, if we can't tell the designer, or if it's a dress that's no longer available, we might be able to suggest another dress that's similar.

    Worth a try, anyway!
