A little bit of feedback...

Darren @ Hitched, 7 September, 2009 at 11:02 Posted on Planning 0 15

Just thought I'd ask you for some feedback.

As you probably know, we had some system problems a couple of weeks ago that meant the site stalling and sometimes grinding to a halt. We made some big changes to resolve this and thought (think) we have corrected most of the issues.

We are constantly monitoring it and if necessary may make more changes if they are required.

But for the time being I'd just like to know if you think everything is running OK? Everytime I post, reply or simply view the forum it seems absolutely fine.

Can you let me know?

Thanks,

Darren

It's a lot faster, also posting is quicker.

Still lots of unsolicited advertising also sneaky advertising!

It definitely seems much, much quicker. I think it's better than it has been for some time to be honest.

Definitely much faster, it was a little painful before.

You could probably speed it up even more if you removed some of the scripts/items that run that aren't strictly needed. I remember sitting there seeing something like 36 items left to download, even though the page was displaying OK, obviously a lot of background stuff going on.

Have you looked at PHPbb? It's a great free forum system, has a fairly small footprint, lots of functionality and an open database so you can transfer existing posts across. That seems to handle high volume forums quite well.

Good job in getting it this far though, I know it's very easy to stamp your foot and say 'I want MORE' it's a lot harder actually trying to do something about it!

If you are having server probs I do some work for a software company and their network/infrastructure guy is absolutely brilliant, their whole managed services team is pretty hot too, happy to pass on details if you require them, they are based in Woking.

    Hi,

Sorry it is still really low for me. To open this thread took approx 3 mins, after clicking reply it took 2 mins and showed 85 items to download and just about to time it when I click reply.

To be honest it is driving me mad but I appreciate you are doing what you can.

    Thanks Lynsey

Hi Faster than before for me - but I do have problems accessing the forum (and the main site for that matter) about the same time each day (around 8-8.30 in the evening). that lasts for a couple of hours and then ok again.

Slightly faster, although the ongoing messaging and email system issues(not working) is still a problem....

I am still having a lot of problems. I can get on fairly quickly early morning and late night, and at the moment it is ok. Several times over the weekend I got a server error message, and sometimes actually getting on takes ages. It's not my broadband as I have the super fast cable .

It is a little faster for me but not much. When going over to Mel's forum I certainly notice the difference. I also like the fact that you can reply at the bottom of the page over there instead of waiting for a seperate box to pop up. They have this on the VW forum I use too, and it certainly makes posting a lot easier and quicker.

I like Zippy's idea about the posting box already open. That would definately improve posting time. It's a lot quicker for me, but still can be a pain at peak times.

I am new to the site and am loving using the forums!

It is a bit slow during peak times which maybe is something to do with the flash advertising at the top and bottom of the pages?
