A little bit wedding related

mariannechuaphotography, 21 January, 2014 at 13:34 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 32

I've just been ordering wedding albums and having a debate with a friend, how many of you had your photos printed as an album (or I think they call it story books sometimes?) and roughly (if you don't mind sharing) how much did you pay?

As yet, I do not have a printed wedding album!

We did a short photobook each for the parents at Christmas, they were supposed to be £30 each but paid £5 with a special voucher (each).

Nope and doubt we will. We had one of those photo book things done with a code from Living Social but I just couldn't justify the £500 or so it would have been for a proper album (wonderful and gorgeous as they are).

We had one done and it was beautiful. A family friend did our photography and created the book and he only charged us £350 for the whole entire thing, book, all day coverage..

I think he used a company called Bellisimo to get the book printed?

I think your friend might've been very generous to you and not made much! I think I know the album supplier!

I offer a fine art album but I did wonder whether my clients found it too pricey. I tend to shoot for less traditional couples kind of thing, lots of them view it on their ipad etc. I do think though that having the photographs in print makes such a huge difference to how it feels when you look back on it. I've managed to find an album that I could provide for around £150 that looks really different from stuff like photobox etc. proper print quality, matte paper etc. I'm hoping it's affordable enough for clients to want one!

He was extremely generous, we would never have been able to afford it otherwise. The album is fantastic.

So glad we had a photographer in the family!

We got all our images on disc and made our own album with Photobox, so it only cost us £30 or something, meaning we could also make them for our parents and grandparents. TBH I liked having the control too, deciding which photos to put in where. My photographer was great and lovely but he wasn't to know which people were related etc.

Our tog offers the disc-only package but he also has one where he'll print off a certain number of photos (think it's 150) for you to then presumably stick in an album yourself old-school style. But I do think that nowadays like you say people want their photos for their Facebook and to show people on their iPad and then maybe a few prints for the wall, but it does seem that fewer and fewer people are opting for the full album.

Our tog goes through queensbury (or something like that!) and i believe there from Australia or new Zealand its about 550 and they are gorgeous. If i have extra money saved well be doing it if not a cheap photo box for me!

Queensbury are the creme de la creme of wedding albums, I thought they started from a bit higher than that, they might've just put their prices up maybe!

We had a story book album (Queensbury) and the whole photographer bill for our wedding was £1500 - that was 3.5 years ago so I expect prices would have gone up by now.

I am so glad I opted for the album and not just a CD.

We had a package of photography from bridal prep to 1st dance and also a storybook album with 70 photos? It came to £1250, then we added a few more pics for £5 each.

Our disc only package was £1000 with albums as an extra from £600 to £1200. I don't think they were Queensbury ones but they were lovely. We couldn't justify the cost at the time of the wedding but did say we'd consider it after the wedding. Having looked around, for £600 for the basic book, I think there is better value out there. We got parent albums from printerpix, leather covered ones for £15 each on a groupon off. I am really keen on the Milk book but have seen some negative comments on their facebook page. For £100 I think that they look like good value. We haven't ordered one yet as I'm aware that they have few good offers every now and again, 40% off etc. It is very difficult to decide who to actually make our album with! Going with the TOG is the easiest option, but its the most expensive one too!

We didn't have a professional TOG, but even if we had, we wouldn't have got an album. They just seemed insanely expensive for only a few photos.

One day we'll get round to DIYing our albums...

We had a disc only package but I made some photo books via huggler (there was a £5 voucher offer I think it was for 25 pages) although I added more pages in fact the max 100 pages and that came to around £40 including delivery.

We had no albums included in our photography package, everything was given to us on a memory stick. We sent our fav pics, including those taken by guests, through to a printers who made us an album for £80. I think we were ripped off a bit, but then we didn't shop around. I loved having the non-professional pics mixed in though (e.g. the picture of the best man who decided to snort a shot of vodka at 1am...)

I think our album was around £400/£500. It is a belissimo album I believe. It is a photo book style and has around 100 photos and I think it is beautiful (obviously!)

We also got two smaller albums for our parents, 10cm, matt finished but other wise identical, these were £175 for the two.

We had a disc only package from our TOG so we made two photobooks for the parents on Photobox. We went for the deluxe one and I was really impressed with the quality. They cost around £150 for the two of them and each was 100 pages.

It's really interesting guys, thanks so much for all the feedback, interesting that there's a range, some do pay premium prices but it's rare, most seem ok to pay a couple of hundred at the most, so I'm hoping this photobook at £150-£200 will appeal to clients as kind of an unique upgrade on the high street kind. I've seen milk books, they're nice, I didn;t think they were cheap though! Mine will be like this:

and then I will offer two styles of high end albums as well

Albums definitely seem to be something like people think are nice but find too expensive. I gotta admit I find them quite pricey as well, but having seen people who view their wedding photos on disc only and those who have prints/albums/framed prints etc., it does feel quite different. Last year I encouraged clients to make their own but I don't think people ever find the time to make them in the end!

If the professional album was more 150-200 than 400-800 then I would be more inclined to push the boat a bit extra for that, but unfortunately the vast difference in price between doing it myself and getting the photographer one was just too much for me.

Thanks! I spent half a morning ordering the samples yesterday, I'm geekily excited about receiving them!

I'm glad to hear 150-200 is accessible for all budgets, thanks guys!

We got a 100 page album from Photobox - I bought a voucher from them that offered it for about £50 instead of £100+ (I just had to create and print it before a certain date)

It came as part of our deal from the Photographer; we have the disk with 500 of the best photos (in colour and black & white) and from that choose which we wanted in the album. Photographer arranged it all and we got to check the layout before it went to print, changing anything we didn’t like. It was about £1,100 for our photographer, which was for the whole day/night, copyright and the story book album.

I paid around £100 for a photobox one. I like it but if our TOG had offered something similar to what you are, we'd have gone for that.

Our tog was 1300 for all day coverage and the album. We decided to pay more for the storybook album so chose the better package. I think it was 200-300 more. I also made an album for me with details and more family pictures in on photobox

We didn't have an album, just got a few printed and stuck in frames.

I think 200 pound is a good price though, that album looks lovely
