A naked neighbours related WWYD

Carrot, 31 May, 2009 at 20:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

Our next-door neighbours don't appear to have realised that their bathroom window is completely see-through even though it's frosted. They have their shower right next to the window and we get treated to full-frontal nakedness when we're out in the garden. H reckons we should tell them but I think that would be like telling them we've seen them naked and I think mortifying for us and them. Would you say something, and can you think of a tactful way of doing it?

No, I wouldn't say anything. Can't you just look away?

Yes tell them! How awful for them ? At least then they can sort it out.

It happened to me and my housemates as students - the landlord had the bathroom refitted and a new window was put in. It was supposed to be frosted but more so in one direction than the other IYSWIM? Anyhoo, the fitters put it in the wrong way. It took weeks to work out why the cars kept honking outside. I eventually came home to be treated to the sight of my housemate washing his willy (at least I hope that's what he was doing). The view was clear as day.

I hope you're not my neighbour. I'm almost certain you can see through my bathroom window . We're doing the bathroom up in the next couple of weeks so may go for another glass but, in all honesty, the thought of people being able to see in doesn't really bother me. I'd assume they'd look away fairly quickly as it's not such a pretty sight.

Luthien- yep, that's pretty much how clear it is to us too.

Chicken- maybe they do know then and don't mind being seen. Oh dear, very undecided now.

    ? hiya Carrot..

I think you might be able to see through ours when the sun shines in, so i always have the ventian blinds half closed.

Depends how well you know your neighbours. If you're on pretty good terms I'd probably tell them. If you don't know them well - maybe slip a note under the door? Least it'll save you both the embarrasment of a face to face conversation.

Eep. It's not that I don't mine people seeing me naked I just don't think anyone would bother to pay much attention, if that makes sense.

Not sure how you'd tell them though. Are you mates?

We're on pretty good terms, we have keys to each other's houses and have drunk wine together- that's good for almost-London isn't it ? Thinking about it there must be at least half a dozen houses that overlook their bathroom so I'm going to have to be brave and tell them (over wine) to spare them further embarrassment.

    Thanks all and ? Stafoo

My IL's neighbour used to walk around naked and spent a LOT of time in his kitchen. The houses were sideways on and you couldn't really miss him and i was sure he could see us too and didn't care..

I would tell them but add a little story to make it seem that you haven't seen them naked. Like mention you saw one of them wandering around in the bathroom and it's a good job they were not naked because you could see them so clearly.

I can't believe some of you wouldn't alert them to this ? I would really, really want to be told about this if it was me!

But I'd do it the coward's way, something like the note suggestion or how seahag came up with!

I think it very much depends on what terms you're on with your neighbours. My answer was based on what I would do - we barely speak to our neighbours (only hello and goodbye when we see them in them in the street) so it would be mortifying to discuss their nakedness with them. If you know your neighbours better, like the OP clearly does, then maybe it's not so embarrassing.

I think it's worse because I do know them. I love Seahag's suggestion though, thank you so much- that takes away the embarrassment for both parties.

...and if your houses are similar design- I would ask if they can see through your window.

They might be too embarrassed to say anything!

Ah, so this is why JK was talking to me this morning about our upstairs landing window and whether we should get the glass frosted... ?
