A not-quite-as-procuctive-as-lucy day (with pics)

Bridget Gump, 18 April, 2009 at 21:06 Posted on Planning 0 19

Fairly (un!)productive day today. Booked my haridresser for the day, I didn't think my usual hairdresser would be able to do it because it's quite far away but she and her colleague are more than happy to, yay! wasn't looking forward to going with an unknown hairdresser.

Also have had another play with centrpieces. Some of you may remeber my rather pathetic attempts at using candles..

I've now decided to go for flowers but to keep them tall and modern. These were arranged by yours truly, so arrangement would hopefully look more professional on the day. I tried 3 different ones with the idea to go for one, but OH, who took a surprising amount of interest in them, suggested actually using a few different flowers. I think I'll definately use the callas in cream and red (only had purple in florist today), but not sure if some vases with other lilies would look odd?

(Obviously tea light holder will have tea lights in them!)

Well done you....Not as productive as Lucy, but the pics give you an edge!! Love the arrangements, I prefer the Calla style ones as opposed to the stargazer style ones. I think its fine to have a mix of Cream and Red, but I'd keep them all the same type flower.

    Gorgeous dining table!

I'd personally have the callas and NO TEALIGHTS. Then in the evening PUT OUT the candles.

I'm having my candles in the evening as there wont be any centre pieces in the evening..

Thanks, only had it a few weeks.

Am I right in remembering your centre pieces form part of youy buffet in the evening?

I'm wandering whether it's worth actually lighting them in the day (the room is very light anyway) and just lighting them in the evening.

One or two of the cake stands can be used for the wedding cake at night, yes....

and i have candle holders which are glass in an ornate holder, to hold votives. I dont see the point of candles in a summer wedding but didint want to leave the tables bare.

I'm having something very similar but putting floralytes in the botton of the vases and gel beads. Means the vase will light up without the actual light being seen as the gel beads will cover it. Then I'm scattering table diamonds on the mirror.

I don't like naked flames on the tables because I just have a fear over someone getting burnt ( I work next to a Health and Safety team!).

Sarah did you see my wedding ring thread. I think you wanted to see what my solitaire looked like with a plain band?

I do have some of the bead soaking as we speak type with the dea to try a floralyte but I think the vases are too thin for one to get to the bottom, how wide is your lyte?

I missed that, off to search now....

Bugger you will be right as my vases are tall so a bit thicker. Not seen the floralytes in person yet so don't know about sizes. x

How tall are they? mine are 50cm, and are very thin in the middle, couldn't fit more than 3 calla stems in them. I might just buy one floralyte to see if it will fit as it's about an inch but very dificult to measure inside!

They look really lovely. I agree with others and would just stick to the calla lillies. I think red in one vase and cream in another vase on alternating tables would look nice. Will you be arranging them yourself for the wedding? I think the cream one in the photo looks really well arranged.

Do you mind me asking where you got the mirrors and vases from and where they expensive?

That I don't know as the venue are arranging everything but maybe 30" high at least but now I look at your vases again the ones I'll have are much wider as more flowers go into the vase. They are really tall as the venue has amazing high ceilings.

No, I already have to be up and ready for the hair dresser at 6.30am on the day, wouldn't have time to do them myself on the day and there is nother wedding the night before so can't do it then.

I bought the vases and mirrors from www.weddingmall.co.uk, I looked around a lot and these were about the cheapest I could find i the sizes I wanted. Plus there was free delivery too as I bought so many.

I've ordered a floralyte anyway, no harm in trying.

The ball thingies have now soaked up all the water, but it looks a bit like bubble wrap!? will try the smaller ones to see if they look any better!

I albsolutely love them!...the simplicity of them really makes them stand out, I would only go for the teal lights at night, the base looks fine on its own for during the day ?
