A Planner On The Day???

Michelle.75, 19 April, 2008 at 14:51 Posted on Planning 0 17

We are happy to plan our wedding and book everything ourselves, but we would like to have someone to take care of everything on the day, so I don't have to worry and my mum can enjoy the day.

I have heard that you can hire someone to do this, and think it would make our day extra special, has anyone heard about this or know of any websites I could look at?

Thanks

    Hi & Welcome!

Have you checked with your venue if they provide anyone on the day? My venue provides the wedding co-ordinator - but I suppose this will depend on your venue but it's worth checking if it's in a hotel or something like that.

My venue has someone there, but I would like to have someone that will be at the church in the morning to check that everything has been set up correctly and then move onto the venue to make sure the tables etc are set up right.

We offer a On the Day Coordination service. We are also Venue Dressers so this is incorporated into our work, we can do as much or as little as you like.

There are lots of companies that offer this service.

    Which area are you in?

If you do a search for On the Day Coordination you will find that a lot of Wedding Planners offer it.

    Hi Michelle

OTD co-ordinators are a great compromise for those brides who enjoy the planning and don't want the stress on the run up to the wedding and to be able to enjoy all of their hard work. You may find that you have a co-ordinator at your venue which is great, but it's not the same.

As a co-ordinator/planner I get involved with the wedding about 3/4 weeks before and basically go through every last detail from suppliers, to how you would like your reception to look including the way you would like your napkins folded! It's my job to liaise with suppliers, dealing with any mishaps both before and on the day. I even go through the timings and provide all of the members of the wedding party a small schedule so they know exactly where they should be and at what time.

A co-ordinator at the venue will be interested in what's happening there, that's if the person you have been dealing with is actually working on your wedding day. Most are 9-5 weekdays and don't actually work the wedding.

I arrive three hours prior to the ceremony where the bride is getting ready and the day starts there. Obviously a venue co-ordinator wouldn't do this. Things that I've had to deal with include, makeup down the dress, doing bride's hair because hairdresser couldn't make it, provided copies of readings when forgotten, find a replacement cake as it got dropped, get place cards relaid as venue had done it upside down/back to front (I do it myself now, much easier), the list goes on.

There are so many other things that an on the day co-ordinator does.

I hope this gives you a little bit more of an idea of what an OTD co-ordinator does.

I think that is a really good idea. My button hole flowers did not get delivered on my wedding day and it caused my husband loads of stress trying to sort it out. Go for it.

I had one and she was brilliant. She did things I could never have planned for. For example after we had photographs on the beach she came up with a damp towel to wipe my feet so I didn't get sand in my shoes, she used a serviette and her sewing kit to fix the back of my dress when it broke half way through the meal, she took all our cards etc to our room so they didn't get lost throughout the day, she even took some extra food from the evening buffet to our room in case we were hungry later on! The list really is endless and well worth the money.

Hi, we are an event planning company and we offer OTD too. Not based in your area but just wanted to show how many of us there are!

OTD is seen as an essential to the running of the day by the couples who use the service. You only have to read testimonials of all the planners listed in the directory to see for yourself!

    Hi

We booked debbieD to coordinator on our wedding day and it was one of the best things we did. She was excellent and we were able to really relax and enjoy the build up to the big day and the day itself.

Well worth it and we especially recommend Debbie @ wedding wonders.
