A question about car insurance - two cars on the same policy? Is it possible?

Highlandgirl72, 15 October, 2008 at 11:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I am going to phone elephant and ask but I'm at work just now and don't have my policy details to hand.

My husband & I currently have one car but we are going to get a second car. The car we have is in my name and he is on the insurance as a named driver. Is it possible to add a second car to our existing policy? I have never heard of it being done but my husband wants me to phone elephant and ask.

Thought I'd ask you knowledgeable lot before I phone!

Thanks!

I'm sure it's elephant I've seen recently advertising that the more cars you insure, the bigger discount you get.

Call them and ask, or check their website?

I'm sure it's one policy one car but discounts are still applied to the second car with second policy with same company (if that's what they offer). Although they may take out just one payment.

I think you have to have a separate policy for each car, but often if you insure with the same company you get a discount - I know more than do this. It would still be worth getting a variety of quotes to find out which is cheapest though, as just because elephant are for your first car, they may not be for a different car.

It is possible for you to be the first / main driver on both policies and your husband to be an additional driver - we do this because that's a lot cheaper for us than H2B being the main driver.

I have 2 cars in my name insured with Direct Line (H has his own car as well). Direct Line are good because a named driver earns their own NCD on the same policy as well.

Could you not insure the second car under your OH's name? Then if one car is in an accident, it doesn't affect the NCD on the other.
