A question about getting engaged?

Ed1988, 22 April, 2014 at 08:11 Posted on Planning 0 12

Should I propose on the Friday or Saturday we are due to leave? Hi, I am going to propose to my girlfriend in may. I have planned to take her away for a night in a city in the UK. We would leave on the Friday, stay overnight in a hotel and return home Saturday evening. My question is, should I propose to her on the Friday after we arrive at the city, or should I propose the next day before we leave? Im not sure what to do. Please help. Thanks

I think the answer to that depends on how you are planning to propose. Have you got anything specific in mind? Eg. in a restaurant? Or at a park?

Well ive decided to propose at the top of an abbey tower overlooking the city, there will be champagne at the top etc! I know she is going to say yes because we have already discussed marriage and knows I have the ring, but obviously doesn't know when im going to propose.

I was proposed to in the middle of our holiday which was perfect!. It meant I had a couple of days to get my head round it and compose myself before telling people. It also gave us a few days by ourselves to enjoy our happiness at being engaged :-) with you going for a weekend I'd go for the beginning so you get the rest of the weekend to enjoy. At least you wont be feeling nervous all weekend if you do it at the beginning? Hope this helps, good luck x

If it were me, I'd like to be proposed to on the Friday. You will get time to celebrate with just the two of you before you before breaking the news to anyone else. Those few moments before anyone else knows were really precious to me, even if it were only hours in my case because we were at home on Christmas morning before the rest of the family were up.

I think the Friday too. If you've already discussed getting engaged, she will probably know it's coming (unless you take her away all the time) and it's a bit awkward waiting for it. I had a pretty good idea my fiancé was going to propose when he took me away for a weekend and was preoccupied wondering when/how he was actually going to do it!

I was proposed to at the beginning of a week long holiday in Kefalonia, mainly because he was rather stressed and wanted to enjoy his holiday so got it over with and because after he'd proposed the ring was my responsibility, lol and he didn't have to keep hiding it and worrying about me finding it. Anyway, it was really nice because we had the whole holiday to enjoy ourselves! So I vote for the Friday!
