A question for you all.....................

Crumbalina, 4 April, 2008 at 15:47 Posted on Planning 0 18

What (in your opinion) are the 3 most important elements for a wedding?

E.g. Is it the Dress, the Cake, Rings, the Honeymoon or anything else.

?

Thank you very much for taking the time to give this one some thought.

If your budget was limited, which items would be essential?

For instance, would a dress, cake and photographer be the only expense?

(I'm asking for a friend who's getting married and has a limited budget), so what if you are already married could you not have done without on your big day and what for those who are getting married do you think you could not live without!

    There's the fluffy 3:

    - Marrying OH
    - Spending day with loved ones
    - Starting married life

    And the more materialistic 3:

    - The dress
    - The honeymoon
    - .... Can't think of a third though.

    2. Registrar/vicar

    3. Family

    The big things:

    - marrying the man you love
    - friends and family being there and having a great day
    - the union of us in the eyes of God

    Materialistic:

    - dress
    - honeymoon
    - seeing everybody in their hats and Sunday bests

    1. Marrying the man I want to spend the rest of my life with and this day being the start of a whole new chapter (pass me the bucket, but so true)

    2. Having a fantastic party with my family and friends
    3. Looking beautiful after paying a fortune for dress, jewelry, hair, makeup etc (at least I am hoping I will look beautiful)

    I love threads like these!!

1 - Marrying the most wonderful, caring and gorgeous man I have ever met.

2 - Having my family around me to share in the happiest day of my life.

3 - Getting to spend a whole weekend with my family close to me instead of too far away

    My 3 are pretty similar:
    1. Getting married
    2. Celebrating with friends and family
    3. Good food, drink, entertainment contributing to everyone having a really good time.

    1) Rings as they will be with us for the rest of our lives
    2) Photographer to capture the memories
    3) The Venue as we're only doing it once so we want to make it special

Those are our joint ones that we discussed when we first started planning so we could prioritise them in the budget.

As a wedding planner (and being married myself), I would say:

    1. Photographer - don't rely on a friend to do this for you, please!

    2. Good food - it's the main thing people will remember about your wedding, especially if it's terrible!

    3. The venue - you want to be able to relax and enjoy your day so you need a venue which you and your guests will feel comfortable with.

    Oh...good topic.

    Mine are:
    1. Marrying my soulmate after 11 1/2 years of living together
    2. Having family and friends share the day with us
    3. Throwing a great party which people will remember for years to come!

If my budget was vrey limited I would definately say that:
    1. The ceremony (have things how you want it - we're getting married twice to get this)
    2. Wedding rings
would be the most important things to me.

    In mine it was

    The dress
    The rings (sort of)
    The entertainment

I wasn't fussed about the cake so we got quite a cheap one and it tasted nice which was the main thing. The rings where important because they needed to last a long time but I wasn't fussed about price, glitz or glamour but I really wanted good, live entertainment so hired a professional band.

What a tough question! I guess ultimately there is nothing materialistic that cant be done on a budget if one considers wedding dresses (second hand or even supermarkets now im told!) only having nibbles, cheapish rings, cake from M & S etc.

A friend of mine recently got married on a budget of £1000. She had a beautiful dress (not sure where from - some auction site possibly?!) reception in the local village hall (with some "dressing") and instead of a wedding breakfast or nibbles they had a Jacob's Join - where all the guests were asked to bring a food item. People brought the most fantastic humous, bread, olives... it was gorgeous.

So, its a personal choice re: priorities but a budget wedding is definately doable!

I have done both types of wedding, I had the large church wedding with all the frills and the budget register office with family meal in a local pub after. They are both memorable for the people who were there everything else was just incidental. Although I am glad that I had that feeling of looking my absolute best in my (hired) very expensive to buy wedding dress at my 1st wedding.
