A self-indulgent poor me thread

MrsToffee, 29 October, 2014 at 20:20 Posted on Planning 0 19

As the title says really, we were meant to have our pre-wedding shoot with our photographer tomorrow which was going to be a kind of anniversary thing seeing as we've been together 12 years this weekend but we're busy with other stuff and I've 'had' to cancel it due to a skin thing on my face, it's happened before that the skin in the corners of my mouth cracks and goes red and sore and this time it coincided with me getting an angry red rash around my mouth as well. The rash has nearly completely gone now but the corners of my mouth look awful, so I'm feeling sorry for myself. On the plus side it looks like I'll be finishing making our invitations tomorrow now!

That sucks Smiley sad I have a rash type thing called keratosis pilaris on my chest and it's flaring up terribly at the moment. There's a patch of skin that's so dry it actually feels scaly! I'm caught in a vicious cycle of worrying that it'll look bad for the wedding, then the stress making it worse. So I feel your pain.

I know what you mean, the corner of my mouth thing tends to happen when I'm stressed or run down and not a lot seems to help speed the clearing up process, I've got a doctors appointment and took photos when it all looked really bad on Monday so I can hopefully at least get some advice on any lotions and potions that might help should it flare up before the wedding, stupid bodies betraying us at every turn!

Poor you! I feel your pain - Im a proper spotty mare a lot of the time, generally it flares up without fail each month, including my chest this month too which has been clear for months and months - how delightful! im trying and failing to work out how likely I am to have an episode when the weddings due...a little self pity never hurt anyone sometimes though so have a day of feeling sorry for ypurself Smiley smile and at least its settling back down for you now so you can rearrange your shoot! and its a silver lining that you get to finish your invites instead!!

That's interesting about the lack of Iron, Catshoes - I've suffered on and off from low iron levels for most of my adult life, and also from the cracks round the mouth thing.....I had never put the two of them together though! I shall be making sure I take my iron tablets between now and the wedding, now, just to be sure (although I do eat a relatively healthy diet, I have been known to be turned away from blood donors at times, so better safe than sorry!).

Thanks! OP, I hope your soreness eases up soon!

Aww toffee - what a shame, especially with the date matching your anniversary. Glad to hear the rash is clearing though.

Catshoes - that's interesting. Like kimiu I've had low iron levels on and off for as long as I can remember! I also get really dry, cracked lips - no matter how hydrated I am or what lipbalm I use. Hadn't put the two together either. My mum has pernicious anaemia which worries me, I've heard its hereditary so I try to eat lots of leafygreen veggies and fish.

Argh kimiu- I had the worst experience donating blood a few years back. Despite feeling super healthy and not having had a problem before, I walked out afterwards, threw up all over myself and collapsed in the car park! Don't remember much and have been too traumatised to go back!

Ddpunk, that is such a shame about blood donors! I have probably been either turned away, or they give up part way through, about half a dozen times. I do persevere, though because I have quite a rare blood group, so think that if I CAN donate, then I SHOULD - after all, I would be grateful for it myself if I needed it!!

But, I know what you mean about being traumatised, and I did have about 5 years after 3 or 4 "bad" donations, when I gave up going. When I got divorced, however, it was on my list of things to give another try. I did, and although I have had one rejection in the meantime, I generally manage to donate. I'm up to about 30 donations in total now, so I'm doing ok, despite the knockbacks!!

Kimiu - thank you, you're right, I just looked up my blood group, and am horrified that only 3% of the donor population are AB+! So much so, that I've just signed up to donate again!! Eeek, roll on Friday! Do we still get orange squash and a biscuit!?

sorry MrsToffee - I've sent this thread way off topic!

I'm AB+ too! But they won't let me donate cos I've had several transfusions myself. Kind of a bummer, but hey ho.

Thanks for all the sympathy ladies, and don't mind at all that it's all gone in a different direction!

I did some research when it first happened a while a go and seem to remember something about iron catshoes, will have to up my spinach intake (not keen to try black pudding!) I'm also a little wary about iron tablets as I believe one of the side effects can be constipation which I suffered from terribly as a child and into my teens and it's not something I want happening (or not!) again! Hopefully the doctor will be able to give me some advice tomorrow!

I didn't end up doing invitations today, that will be a tomorrow job but we did order wedding rings and I went to look at the cars my dad managed to find so I'm all happy again now!

Ooh I forgot - happy anniversary toffee!

I'm happy to report that I had a very successful donation! Was pretty nervous beforehand but it was fine once they'd found a vein. Can't believe how quickly it was over with. Easy peasy!!

Here's my happy 'they gave me a choccy biscuit' face! Thanks for getting me back in the saddle kimiu!

I get cracks in the corners of my mouth due to low iron/B-vits and can't get rid of them through diet alone - Floradix liquid is v good, easily absorbed and doesn't give you constipation.

My mum has the same problem with the red cracked mouth thing - seems to be a lack of B Vitamins. She upped her intake of marmite (as in eating it not spreading it on her face lol) and seemed to help.

Ooh I do like marmite katscamel, will have to start having it on my toast in the morning!

It's cleared up now and haven't been to get the cream the dr prescribed so will leave it and escape the prescription charge!

Yeah, I'm a vegan and Marmite is the only vegan food that naturally contains vitamin B12, so I eat it a lot. H2B detests it so it's quite funny watching the faces he makes when he smells it Smiley smile
