A word of warning...

Storky, 22 February, 2011 at 15:31 Posted on Planning 0 139

Ladies and gents,

As you know this is an anonymous wedding forum but many of us chose to share identifying features, both on board and off. It helps to create a sense of community but it can have its dangers.

Imagine if you were to highlight an issue you were having with a supplier (issues with venues and dress shops have already been aired today, why shouldn't they be?), you would reasonably expect to receive some sympathy or advice. Often more detailed advice is given off board. Nothing wrong with that.

How would you feel if someone, a random from the board, took it upon themselves to contact your supplier with a view to sorting out your issues or chase them up for outstanding information? Imagine them doing that without your permission.

Don't know about you folks, but I'd be bloody livid. Even after seeing their poor attempt at an explanation. Perhaps even more cross than I would be to start with.

Unfortunately that day is here.

Be careful what you say, ladies and gents.

Someone using info given in good faith inappropriately, Vikster. I'm sure they'll be spoken to. We just wanted to let people know they need to be careful with their information.

I don't know what has happened but just wanted to say I hope it isn't anything too awful.

One of the things that keeps me from posting on here more often is that quite honestly I never know how much to divulge before something like this could happen. I am not comfortable with people who aren't trusted friends of mine having too much information about my wedding plans.

As I said, I hope it is something that can be easily rectified if needed, I suppose it will make many brides to be think twice before posting certain things now!

WTF!!! That is very odd!! Like the others said I hope it hasnt caused a massive problem for whoever!!

Just shows how careful you have to be, it is easy to get lulled into a false sense of security with all the helpful hitchers on here but you also need to remember this is an open forum and anyone can see what you post, not just those who mean well however misguided

Is it just me or does anyone else automatically feel guilty when they see things like this lol

The only person I've phoned today is the doctor and I didn't mention my own wedding never mind anyone else's ?

It is a bit weird, hopefully done with the best of intentions but to be honest, I'd think it was weird if my mum or CBM or anyone other than OH tried to 'help out' with my suppliers, nevermind one of you lovely hitchers - no offence, I love chatting to you all on here but I have no idea who you all are!!

Seems odd, hopefully they won't have told the supplier exactly what was said on here, we don't exactly hold back do we!!

I'm sure the vast majority of people on here are perfectly trust worthy, after all we're all in the same boat. At the risk of sounding sanctimonious, it's a handy reminder about the safety of our information.

The realisation that other people can see the posts on here prompted me to remove mine and OH name from my ticker.

I occasionally wonder if uninvited guests may turn up on details found on wedding forums the internet over?

No offence lovely ladies, but I'm stressed enough sorting out my own wedding without getting involved in someone's that I don't even know! Far too much time on their hands.
