Aaarrgh! Getting everyone to match????

shelly1816, 1 August, 2012 at 22:34 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi all,

Having an absolute colour crisis. We just can't decide on a colour!! We want everyone to match, but have only found 2 places that seem to sell the whole matching set. The first being BHS but I'm not sure I like any of the colours! or Dessy and I'm not sure we can afford them??

How is the best way to get everyone kitted out to match that will not cost a bomb and doesn't involve spending hours matching swatches??????

We have 1 adult bridesmaid and 1 child (bordering on too old for flowergirl), 3 pageboys, 3 ushers, my OH and my dad all to get matched, we have no idea what colour we like. The venue want to know so they can start preparations and my mum is banging about cakes and invitations already! I'm ready to start banging my head against a wall!!

Want to avoid hiring as round here it seems to be more expenive to hire a suit than to buy one! As everyone seems to be getting married all the guys are investing in matching black suits and just changing the colours for each wedding.

Please help!!! ?

What colours do YOU like? I get the impression you might be trying to please everyone with their opinions? If you just can't decide, try having a look at flowers and seeing what catches your eye as a bouquet. Do you have a favourite flower? Maybe that will help you choose a theme?

I never had this stress as we never even aftempted for anything to match. All the men wore their own suits etc.

I guess if you choose a colour like black, ivory etc, you will find lots if matching things in many different shops.

We didn't try overly hard to match everything. Our colours were white, silver and grey. Adult BM was in a silvery grey dress, child BM (10) was in a white dress from Monsoon and the men, including PB, wore varying shades of grey. It all tied together nicely but wasn't overly 'matched'.

I am not having anything completely matching either - my scheme is brown and ivory but the brown is covering a range from taupe for the BMs to chocolate sashes for the FGs and brown and ivory suits/shirts for the guys. I think if you have varying shades of one colour it looks just as nice as being completely spot on.

I did this the easy way - I let other half choose, I actually thought he would choose blue, but went purple.

I was a bit like this to, the purple of the b maid dresses was a particular colour and nothing in the suit hire shops matched so after much dithering I went for a contrast, we now have a purple lilac and pink scheme rather than purely purple! Smiley smile

Does it have to match up exactly? Because I think you're fighting a losing battle if you want BM, ushers, flower girls, page boys, cakes and invites to all match exactly.

Take a long deep breath, choose your favourite colour and go with a number of different shades. I think it's quite nice to have flower girls or younger BM's in a lighter shade to the adult BM's.

Why don't you find a good seamstress? That way you can find a fabric you like and get her to use it on the BM dresses, flower girl sash, men's cravats and hankerchiefs.

They could buy or hire ivory waistcoats? To make the groom different he could also wear an ivory cravat while everyone else wears which ever colour you choose.

I wanted my 3 bm's to match same dress but have different colour each (dusky blue, soft rose and french cream) but couldnt find anything like it within my budget so have JUST (with less than 2 months to go) found 3 beautiful dresses from coast which suit all of my bm's which are 13, 21 and 29 yrs old, and sizes 8, 10 and 18. and the dress is a soft pink - very unlike me!

left OH to his own devices and he got himself all charcoal grey suit with white shirt - but will NOT wear pink so all the boys will be wearing a soft blue tie, oh and they all getting their own suits as well but will also be similar colour (3 piece grey) with white shirts.

so matching....but not matching...... ! so it can work! you might just need to be a bit creative, but thats where hitched can come in ?

We hated this bit! We picked out a cravat to match my OHs kilt and decided to use that colour for the bridesmaids. We colour matched the adult bridesmaid and a fabric for the flower girls sashes - the dresses are standard ivory dresses from John Lewis but we are replacing the sashes. Could you do coloured accents too? It'll save you a fortune.

I wouldn't worry too much if i was you. We couldn't pick a colour for ages, we went from white, black, orange, green and plum and ended up with a contrast of cadbury purple, lilac and white. I bought the bridesmaids all the same dress and the men all the same cravats...so the individual groups matched exactly...we are bringing the various shades together on the cake xx
