Aargh!!! Bridesmaid dresses.....

sarahb3426, 9 June, 2011 at 21:37 Posted on Planning 0 28

Ok,

I am having x2 flower girls - got their dresses, x1 pageboy, x6 Grooms men - all suits got and paid for...can I find any dresses for my 3 girls - NO!!!

Although it may be because am looking for dresses under £100 each in either Fushia Pink/Hot Pink or Purple - HELP!!!! they all want long dresses - everytime I find a really nice Maxi dress - they are all out of stock!

Where did you all buy yours from? Any tips of where to look - i think i've tried everywhere on the high street so far...and this is where we really want to buy from as they would all prefer dresses that don't look like tradional BM dresses so they can wear them again..

Aaargh..nightmare i tell you!

Where's that wine gone?!

    Hi Tray,

Yeah seen them, and they are lovely and if we can't find any other dresses outside the Bridesmaid range then may go for these...the girls are wanting more purple or pink maxi dresses, but smart enough for a wedding while not looking like BM dresses!

    But thanks ?

I know it's a stretch, but have you had a look at ebay? I've been searching for similar things, and i've found some fab dresses on here, that the girls will be able to wear again, quite cheap. x

I am half expecting this post to be deleted but it is based on the truth so shouldn't be!

I wanted some dresses from Coast that were the perfect colour but they sold out immediately and I could not find them for love nor money. My sister had been preggers so we had only a short amount of time to find the right dress and get it ordered in the right size.

Started off fine, communication was great etc. Ordered a bm dress and flowergirl dress on a rush order (6 weeks), was a bit more expensive than I was looking for but I was desperate as time was running out. Turns out she wasn't making the dresses but ordering them in from her suppliers in Japan. We went to visit her (in her garage, freezing cold in January!) and got both girls measured up and paid the deposits.

We went to collect the dresses 2 weeks before the wedding, the flowergirl dress was fine and the bridesmaids dress was near enough alright, for a made to measure dress it was not cut very well around the hips but it was ok. The zip was sticking a bit and so she said that she would replace it and I could pick it up the following week (1 week before the wedding). I arranged to collect it on the Friday, to which she told me that she might not be in but I could pick it up from her childminder... hmm ok... so I turn up to collect it and am told by the childminder that she needs to call Lisa. I get the phone passed to me and she asks where the final payment is, kept repeating that it wasn't a problem but still wanting to know where the money was. I explained that I would transfer the money that afternoon once I was happy with the dresses. As all this was going on, her husband came downstairs, in his dressing gown and I just felt so awkward I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. I took the dress and left.

When I got home I could have cried, there was a pull in the satin right in the front of the dress, the satin band didn't line up at the back, you could see all the stitching and worst of all they had taken out the invisible zip and replaced it with a normal big zip, in the wrong colour and it was too long!! My BM tried it on and it looked awful, the zip wouldn't lie flat. I phoned up immediately and told her what the problem was and she said that she hadn't even seen it, she had sent it away to be amended and hadn't even checked it before I came to collect it. She finally agreed to knock off £15 for the inconvenience. I called my mum and basically had to get her to take it away, I couldn't deal with it with only a week to go!

The end result was that they lady who had my dress for steaming took it in and said she would see what she could do... turns out she is a miracle worker and managed to salvage most of the damage that had been done. I wish I had asked her to make it for me in the first place!

    Certainly not a dress worth £90... *

    * in this instance, obviously I cannot speak for anyone else who may have been perfectly satisfied.

Thans Mrs C - at least if the post is removed I have seen that now!! It's good to have a rounded view of suppliers, good and bad, so to hear this when I've only heard good elsewhere is really useful. Thank you for sharing...I hope you had a wonderful day in the end!

I am going to see her in July so we'll see how it goes...

I got mine from the Birmingham Dress Lady (if you search the forums there's loads of people who've got them from her who are very happy - she has an e-bay shop)

I got 2 adults and 2 childrens dresses all for £180.

We went to her shop in Birmingham and got measured and she made them all to measure - you can just send her your measurements and she'll make them to your measurements - I am very happy with them and the quality, as are my BM's!

She has whatever colour you want!!

She has a 98.9% positive feedback with almost 3,000 buyers!

I'm really struggling - I have 3 BM's who are 18, 17 and 13, and my MOH will be 32. Would you suggest a style the same for all 4, and risk too much of an older style ruining the younger girls, or go for 2 sepreate style dresses but in the same colour?
