aargh stupid trains!

pinkglitter, 5 June, 2011 at 09:23 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi, just a rant really, but....We specifically searched for a venue an hour max from London by train to make it as easy as possible for people as lots of friends will be coming from London. Now, the train company is closing the whole line for the fortnight that our wedding is in the middle of!!! SO ANNOYING! Its going to nearly double the journey time for people on the way (now 1 hr 40) and on the Sunday there's a replacement bus part way ie all loads of faffing!!! I just hope it doesn't put people off - have already had no's due to things like yachting holidays (we only sent Save the Dates LAST NOV!!)

rant over.... x

Could your friends not club together to hire a minibus or something? That's probably as expensive as the train

Or if there are too many for a mini-bus, how about clubbing together for a coach?

    Definitely have a look.

We're in London and we found that the cost of hiring a Routemaster was barely more expensive than the cost of hiring a 'standard' modern coach... so you could look into it and turn it into one of the 'features' of the wedding IYSWIM?

Good luck, it is SO annoying when stuff like that happens and I'm off to check our line is alright now!

Whilst I do understand the frustration of necessary engineering work on the railways messing about with people's travel plans, I do always find it interesting when people complain about disruption on the trains yet happily crawl through hours of roadworks, contraflows and diversions on the motorway and think 2it's just one of those things".

Cant say I have ever "happily" crawled through hours of roadworks.

I meant, it's annoying when it falls on your weekend. Simply because if I was planning a party, the advance warning railways give is plenty of time to arrange a party on a non-engineering day, but weddings need to be planned in advance so it's pot luck regarding engineering weekends.

I don't drive so actually, I never happily crawl through hours of roadworks... I use the trains very frequently and don't often complain about them either. I fully understand engineering works and I fully understand fatalities or other incidents. What annoys me about trains is when they are always late. I use both Southern and South West Trains and find that SWT are almost always on time whereas Southern tend to be 1-2 minutes late, with every train. THAT annoys me.

I hate the train announcers voice on Southern trains. And the fact she tells you what the next stop will be about 10 mins before you actually get there.
