Abandoned!

Nims, 4 March, 2015 at 20:27 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 40

Ok, not quite.

Just dropped my mrs off at Heathrow and now I'm home in bed with the MAJOR glums! She's off to South Africa for two weeks with her entire family on a trip that was booked pre-us. It was a three week trip but she's booked a flight back a week early thank goodness. I know I should just starfish and enjoy the me time but... wah. Also, who will make my cups of teas?!

WOE IS ME.

Aww! H is going to India for work on Monday and I will be feeling exactly the same, lots of hitched obsessing methinks! You couldn't have gone too?

Yeah, my H works away pretty often so I can empathise. In summer 2013 we had only been engaged six weeks and lived in our flat four days when he had to go away for a week. We had no furniture so I was sitting on a garden chair and sleeping on a mattress on the floor, there were boxes everywhere, it was the hottest it had been in several years (which I hate), and on the third day he was gone there was a huge fire on our street and the flat stunk of smoke. It was all very unsettling!

Oh it's rubbish isn't it! Wish I could have gone, I'm on placement (I'm doing a social work masters, can't miss it).

We only moved in with each other in November so it's super weird to be here in this house without her. I'm sort of aimlessly pottering around. She cleaned the entire place top to bottom today while I was at placement though and has bought me the handbag I've been eyeing from duty free, so I'm forgiving her a little bit now.

(Also feeling mega guilty because I've been so stroppy about this trip and not really given her a chance to get excited at all! Selfish Nimsay ?)

Awww, bless you. I was the exact opposite of you. WHen OH went to Thailand 18 months ago I think I was more excited than he was when I dropped him off at the airport. I was also gutted (but secretly chuffed and flattered) that he missed me so much he changed his flights and came home a week early!

In my own defence I have lived a bizarrely sheltered life and those 2 weeks that he was away was the longest period I have ever lived completely alone in all my 31 years - I was very ready for some 'me' time!

Blimey YK, you were definitely overdue some you time!

Aww, at least you're missing out for a good reason then. Haha, bless you, it's hard isn't it. I've been trying to be really supportive of H as he's never had to travel for work before and he's not really looking forward to it, but I just wanna scream don't go!! We had gig tickets for Monday and he wasn't well, and I felt so lost! We've really become a little unit, I'm lost without him now

Yep. Know this feeling. Husband went to China for 10 days a month after the wedding. Then Wales twice for 4 days each and then a week in France all between September and Christmas last year.

He is in Lyon for a week in two weeks time for work. I will be alone with the cat and although she is an excellent conversationalist, I am dreading it. Fortunately I am going to ship the parents in for a few days that week!

    Ah Nimsay, that sucks.

My H has to go away for work every now and then and whilst I'm one of those people who can be happy in their own company, I still get lonely after a little while. He went to New York for work a couple of months before we got married and a one week trip then turned in to a two week trip as they needed him to stay longer. I was unreasonably down in the dumps about the extension which prob didn't help my H as he didn't want to be there any longer than he had to either really.

Hope it goes quickly for you. Try to do little odds and sods you wouldn't normally be able to do if she was around, like watching TV programmes she hates etc! :-)

Yeah, I usually try to schedule myself something for every evening, tidying/cleaning type tasks that I put off when he's around, watching a film he wouldn't like, etc. I also love getting early nights (so sad). I lived alone for almost two years so I do like the alone time, but I also miss him a lot!

My H doesn't really make tea either. He'll usually accept one when I offer, but he isn't a tea instigator Smiley smile he does go out to get me coffee every day that we're not at work though, so he's more than excused!

I love it when I get lots of time to myself.

My H works away A LOT, so I get plenty of it. I love him, and miss him, but I really do prefer my own company.

My H doesn't work away anymore but he used to have to pop up tp Edinburgh for a couple of nights every month. I loved it!!

He works shifts now and I love it when he's on nights as I get the bed to myself! I love my own company though.

I wish I could say I was loving it but I'm not, truly envious of all of you who are able to enjoy me time! I used to fiercely value and enjoy my independence but I think i've forgotten how to be alone ?

Tonight I had a dirty mcdonalds for tea and now I'm watching trashy tv (Teen Mom). She'd hate that.

Aww! I know what you mean, I'm now totally hopeless on my own. I've just been to tesco to get all my food for next week to avoid falling into a rut, gonna try and kick start the heathly eating again next week by eating lots of fish which H wont eat.

Ha Mrs Shep, my OH hates fish too so the prawns & smoked salmon are the first thing in the trolley when he's away! Yum yum.

Ooh I love ME time! OH never works away but loves cosying up and falling asleep on the sofa in front of the TV. It used to bug the life out of me if he didn't come to bed but then i discovered the joy of the star position, ha! With the house move we've just bought new sofas which are currently being treated like royalty.. I don't think i'll be getting the bed to mysekf again for a while Smiley sad

OT but nimsay - where is your social work placement? I qualified last summer and was lucky to have a cracking final placement with a fostering team. Start my first qualified post in a couple of weeks, eek!

I'm mixed - sometimes I can't wait for her to go out so I can have a lovely old time by myself, sometimes i feel a bit needy and the last thing I want is to be home alone. My dog babies defo help though. When she was away last weekend they were both missing her too so they were super clingy, I was often wedged on to the edge of the sofa covered in dog!

Aw Nim - I'm not sure building a flat pack is such a good idea alone!? Friend of mine recently split from a long term relationship and needed to buy a wardrobe for her new lodger (bills needed paying!) she unpacked the entire thing and then sat on the floor in tears because she couldn't do it on her own! Ha ha, bless her, she's alright now, wardrobe's built, new housemate moved in. I hope you have a nice weekend whatever it involves!

I know this is going to make me sound very sad but..... I LOVE building flat pack. Really enjoy it. Have done loads. I even put together a midi sleeper with desk and drawers etc in a box room that was only about a foot longer than the bed.

Anyone in Notts area needs a hand give me a shout?

DDpunk I'm in a 16+ charity rehousing homeless youths. Mainly asylum seekers. I got the internship job I went for though this week so it's 12 weeks over the summer (paid!)between year one and two in children's services, in either assessment or with the IRO. Super happy about that!

How are you finding life post qualified?! What job have you got?

I'm off to ikea now. Regretting my idea somewhat but have convinced my dad to come with me, so there's that at least. And meatballs. Ten days to go!

Whaaaa!!! Ive now been abandoned too. This is the first time we've been apart since we got married, and it happens to be to do something he's never done before, in a country he's never been to, I'm not going to be able to relax all week!

Celtic curl - HELP! This damsel and her undersink cupboard need you! These instructions are rubbish and the screwy things are weird Smiley sad

Nimsay - great news on the paid intern, sounds really interesting and will be awesome for your job prospects when you qualify. I did shifts in semi-supported residential (for care leavers) through the summer to make ends meet and it was so tough! Long, long hours. Those support workers have my total respect!

My post is in the 'child in care' team, and I start next Monday, eeek! Having a crisis in confidence this week and wondering what I was ever thinking but i'm sure i'll settle once i get going again. My last placement seems so long ago. My DBS and reference checks have taken sooo long, i got offered the job in November, but then the council had OFSTED in so delayed my start date again. Am feeling super lucky, not many from my course have found permanent employment with a local authority so trying not to stress and telling myself that the interviewers must have seen something in me! Ha.

Hi DD shame you're not closer - I would have been round to put it together for you.

If you're really struggling, send me the instructions and also a close up of the screws you said were weird. I can probably guide you through it - it looks pretty straight forward.

Ah thanks celticcurl - BUT I've only gone and bloody done it! Ha, i'm so stubborn, refused to let it beat me. I googled and found clearer instructions which explained the screwy things.

So that's the bathroom cabinet, to add to the TV stand, & the coffee table (ok that only involved 4 legs but still!) woo, flat pack queen! Smiley winking

I'm feeling a little bit lost if I'm honest! We spend so much time together (we work at the same company too) and it feels so wrong to be without him! I've set myself little tasks for each evening so that I have to do something, otherwise I'd just end up wallowing and getting nothing done and feeling sorry for myself! I've been worrying about him too as he's on his own somewhere he's never been, thousands of miles away. Can't wait to have him home!
