absolute Make-up disaster!!!

Pinki Hels, 25 July, 2011 at 15:05 Posted on Planning 0 1

OMG if Saturday could be removed from my memory I would gladly get rid of it...

It was the day of all the trials - hair in the morning and then make up in the afternoon with my dress fitting in the afternoon.

Well hair was great - no issues - everything ran smoothly... Dress fitting fine - just final one next week..

Then onto the makeup appointment - The lady that was doing my makeup was a good friend of mine - she had said that as a wedding present she was going to do mine and the BM's make up for free and that all I needed to pay for was the trial - no problem.

So we was in the salon that she worked - we was meant to have a 2 hour slot - she had told us that my make up would take around 45mins, BM about 30 each.

Got there and admittedly we where 10mins late but we called her to pre-warn her. Got there an the first thing she said was that the salon was actually closed as they had an open day on the Sunday. ( I had not been told this beforehand and the appointment had been booked for 3 weeks) one of the BM's joked and said are we holding her up - she replied saying "you are actually". I chose to ignore this and sat down to have my makeup done. 15 mins later she said I was done - I looked in the mirror and had bright red lipstick on - I dont wear lipstick but the rest of the make up seemed ok. I told her that I didnt like the lipstick - she huffed and puffed and didnt say anything else - so she moved on - both bridesmaid where done again in 15 mins each... 45 mins later we where on our way home instead of 2 hours later.

Got home and looked in the mirror in my front room - and noticed that I actually looked like I had no makeup on and my eyelashes looked liked spiders legs. The BM's looked at theirs - you could tell that they had makeup on but they had makeup lines where it had not been taken up to the hair line or blended. So I texted my friend (didnt ring as she had already told me she was sorting the salon on for the next day) and said that I have now looked at the makeup in natural light and I was not happy with it and if there is something that can be done - she replied saying I can't have anymore bronzer on - (I didnt ask that) So I just responded saying that I look like I have no makeup on in comparision to the BM's and that I had a look at it in natural light.

Next thing my phone is ringing with a very defencive friend on the phone saying that I was happy with it in the salon so why have I changed my mind - I reiterated that I had seen in now in natural light and it obviously isnt the same as seeing it under spot lights. She automatically came back and said if you dont want me to do the make up then I wont. she then proceeded to say that she is losing out on money doing my makeup and again said that I was happy with it in the shop.
I went over the concerns that I had and she continued to be rude towards me and saying that I was being really nasty. I asked if she had never been told that someone wasnt happy with the work, she claims apparently not.

I got that upset that I had to hand the phone over to my BM and the lady again said that if we didnt want her to do it she wont and that she is out of pocket.

I was absolutely fuming - not a single sorry came out of her mouth, nor did she say what could be done to resolve the problem. When people saw me they actially asked me if I had removed the makeup already (I hadnt - you just couldnt see it and I dont wear makeup normally except mascara)

So 2 weeks before my wedding I told her to forget it and that I dont want her doing my makeup. I told her that I thought it was disguisting the way that she has spoken to a paying customer and if I was like that in my job I would get sacked.

My BM's have been amazing and we have managed to actually find someone who is able to help us on the day and said that she will do a trial for me today.

Sorry for the rant but I was distraut that my so called friend would do such a thing and for anyone to react to me asking can something be changed - I thought that was the hole point of a trial to iron out any problems before the day!!!

Yes it is - and the problem you've identified is that you want a different make-up lady!

If you're not happy witha supplier then you need to discuss it with them - and if she won't discuss with you then you have to look elsewhere. At least it's better to know now than on the day - call it a lucky escape and try someone else.

I don't know about "want" - "need" seems more appropriate as that really does sound like you suffered some dreadful service.
