Academic diary - a moment of inspiration!

kimiu, 8 May, 2014 at 13:42 Posted on Planning 0 23

I'm a "planner" - I write lists, lists of lists, brainstorm things, and I am lost without my diary and/or my filofax.

So, obviously I am in my element with planning our wedding!

With one exception.....as the wedding is in June 2015, my diary only goes up to the end of this year, so I CAN'T PUT EVERYTHING IN THE DIARY!!!! Ok, so it is in a folder, and there are bits at the back of my diary for putting next years bits in, but it's not the same!!!

So, I was stupidly excited when I had the idea that if I get an academic diary - July 2014 to July 2015 - it will actually cover the whole of our wedding planning period! (other than these next few weeks). I can't wait now to get home and start writing up all of those things like "Final numbers due to caterers today" and "pay photographer's final balance"....?

Little things......!!!!!

Ooh that's a great idea! I'm a lists person but never thought of keeping a wedding diary, I can imagine that being really handy nearer the time when I have lots to do!

I also had a similar dilemma! My wedding is October 2015 and like you I am planner and lover of lists!

Its been getting to the point where we have a fair few things booked now and I wanted to start writing down when final balances are due etc, but i didn't want to carry round two separate diary's as by bag is full of enough stuff already! THEN..... I went into paperchase for some invitation card and happened to stop and look at the diaries and then out of the corner of my eye i saw the filofaxes! This particular one came with an 18 month diary insert starting in June this year!! Its perfect!!!

I totally looked like an idiot when i was paying for it at the till as i was grinning like a cheshire cat!

As you say though, its the little things....! ?

I've done this! I wrote down who was having which room at our venue on the back of an envelope and i've completely lost the list! It was pre filofax. I'm so annoyed at myself! x

Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!

A shiny pink page-per-day diary will be by my side for the next 13 months, room for lists, for notes, for ideas, for targets, for....for.....for......!!!!......it is the best £7.99 I could have spent on an otherwise dreary day!!!

I got mine from Rymans and they had a large selection. I also looked on Amazon, but although they had a good choice, I like to see how a diary "feels" before I buy it.

(As I typed that, I realised how sad that must read, but you know what I mean - if it is to be my companion for a year, it has to work with me, not against me!!!)

Kimiu like you I'm an obsessive planner and wedding planning has been such fun for my organisational mind!!

I highly recommend the App called Trello. It's is free and is basically an app you can store any lists, checklists and planning. It has been my wedding planning lifeline and found it handy to be something I can access when out and about.

I'll post some pics of my Trello wedding board Smiley heart

Iv got about 20 lists on my notes on my phone, also all dates on my calendar on my phone. Going to have to put it all on a paper calendar as I'm always loosing phones and I'd be lost if I lost mine now with less then 4 months to go!!

This is how I started, and then i couldn't cope because I was constantly having to update the ipad and then the calendar in our kitchen and then my OH's calendar! Now i just use my diary and my OH knows he needs to look in it before confirming any plans etc! x

    Goldpants, I have list envy!!!

I take screenshots and things on my phone, but there is no substitution for seeing it on paper. I'm sure I don't make the best of my phone, and I don't have an ipad, but I do love a bit of paper and some different coloured biros!!

Just so long as I don't leave my folder/diary/notebook on the bus/train/coffeeshop table!!!

So, I now have my academic diary!

Spent a good 15 minutes trying to decide on size, shape, style etc. as if that weren't bad enough, I have now realised that my handbag isn't big enough to fit it in and I need to buy a new one! I feel like I have now truly descended into wedding la la land and I think my OH may just disown me!

Yaaaay! What's it like?! And that's a double bonus now that you need a new handbag!

Although, I think my handbag is too big, i just seem to keep on putting stuff in it - some days I feel like I carry Mary Poppin's handbag - I'm thinking maybe I should actually just clear it out this weekend! (To make way for more unnecessary stuff! lol) ?

It's a day to a page with a couple of pages for deadlines, notes, important contact numbers etc. I have just noticed though, that it ends on 30th July next year and we get married on 1st August. My OCD brain can't decide if that's perfect or annoying!

    Ooh, MrsFitt2b - how annoying......!!

Although, if you are the organised perfectionist that I would expect, you will be happy to look at the bottom of the page dated 30th July 2015 and write "DONE"....giving you time to just enjoy your last day.

    So, the timing is perfect!!
