Acai Berry

far2calm, 30 January, 2012 at 09:48 Posted on Planning 0 10

Starting to get desperate... WEIGHT LOSS, its taking over my life. Since the start of 2012 I have been on a mission to loose some blubber, eating only 1200 calories a day and excersising at least 4 times a week. BUT the last 2 weeks I havent lost any weight, and starting to seriously panic, so far spent most the morning crying, my first fitting is in March and if I'm to meet my goal I need to loose 4lb, not going to happen. So wondering if anyone has tried Acai Berry Supplements and what they thought of them. OR any tips on loosing some blubber.

Thanks

If I remember rightly acai berry is more about ageing skin etc. I don't think it's to do with weight loss. Don't get disheartened & stick at it. Do you measure yourself too? I usually loose weight for 2-3 weeks, then 1 week (where I've done no different) I won't loose any weight but will loose inches. Last week I lost no weight but lost 1.5" from my waist & 1" from my hips.

    Keep going!

I took acai berries for a while. More to try and give me more energy as i was always really tired and struggled to stay awake, even when driving.

They did not make me loose weight, nor did they keep me awake!

I think 1200 calories is far too low and u will burn out long before the wedding. U will not have any energy!

You know what really seems to be working for me?

    No dairy or red meat.

For actual weight loss I've been sort of low carbing with chicken and fish only. I get those Youngs Gastro Basa Fillets which are 500 calories for two.

I don't have anything in the morning then around 11.30 stick two on and bam, come dinner time I've only had 500 calories all day. Then, I have 2000 left to consume before I go over my daily intake and at 4-5pm if you have willpower just have another two fillets.

1000 calories a day, no hunger as it's protein.

Sorry, I don't know anything about acai berry but I know a fair bit about weight loss. A few years ago I lost 3 and a half stone. Over a divorce, 2 pregnancies and months of bed confinement due to my back I managed to put it all back on again (plus a bit!).

In the last 16 months I have lost 4 stone.

    When is your wedding?

These are my first few pieces of advice but please feel free to ask if you want to know anything else:

    • You are eating too few calories. Calorie counting is a very good method of losing weight (combined with exercise). How much you need to eat depends on how much you currently weigh and how much you need to lose. Unless you are at either extreme of the weight range I would suggest 1500 calories a day.
    • Make sure that you count the calories on absolute everything that goes in your mouth, drinks included. It's easy to grab a sweet or a cup of tea and not think about it.
    • What kind of exercise are you doing? Cardio is great for aiding weight loss. You're doing this to get into your dress so size is more important that weight. Doing the right toning exercises can make a big difference in inches even if the scales stay the same.

    Hope that helps a bit

Acai is just a fad, there is nothing in them that will magically make you lose weight.

What you need to do is not just calorie couting but making sure that the calories you do eat are from good healthy sources. Like Chris said cut way down on red meat, saturated fat and booze, fizzy drinks, procesed foods and control your portions of carbs. Eat loads of fruit and veg and continue with the exercising.

If you burn off more than you eat then you will lose weight but you need to be honest with yourself about what you really are consuming (portion sizes are important, I am still gettinrg to grips with this on MFP, weigh your food for a little while until you get used to how many calories are in the portion you're eating)

Wedding is end of May, so not long!

I’m including everything even tea, coffee, the bit juice I add to water. Portion size is kind of already controlled, but from this evening going to use a tea plate to have my main meal on. I know this sounds silly but the chances are you will put less on your plate.

Exercise is mainly all cardio, swimming 3 – 4 times a week, at least 50 lengths at a time, and it’s fast and proper goggles on head down (I used to train for a team 2 times a week) and then I spin once a week, with a 15 minutes abs blast at the end which I try to do myself at home a few nights a week.

Have you had medical tests to rule out any other problems (underactive thyroid, for example)? If you're eating that little and exercising regularly and not losing weight, then there's something very wrong.

As for acai, I've not tried it (calorie counting works wonders for me), but the overall consensus of the things I've read on it has been negative (no or almost no effect on weight loss).

Oh tell me about it. I nearly cried to my fitness instructor last night when I explained i'm eating less and exercising 6-7 times a week and have PUT ON WEIGHT! She assures me it's muscle mass, and I have noticed a difference in my waist but not my tummy, bum and thighs which I'm desperate to get rid of and can't. My diet is good too but I think I'm going to give weight watchers a go ?

I agree, i think acai is a fad, TBH. You need to eat breakfast as it increases your metabolism. Why dont you try circuit taining and i would def try interval training thats good for weight loss, toning and fitness.

Maybe your body has plateaued and is in need of a change with your exercise routine?

Maybe join a local weightwatchers class and explain you need some help with losing those last few pounds! they can then give you a steady and healthy way of losing it.

You should eat more calories, you can do this and not eat things like white foods such as white bread and pasta - watch portion sizes too.
