ACCA or similar studiers/graduates

How many papers did you do a year?

I am starting ACCA and as I know the majority of papers 2&3 through my A level accounts, I am planning in doing the CBE for these in October, and paper 1 in January. I was then hoping to do papers 4&5 in June 2010 and then 2 papers in Dec 2010 and 2 in June 2011, and then I can have my research and analysis project done before summer 2012.

Obviously this is variable as if I have a baby I will need time off studying, but otherwise, is it a viable plan, for those in the know?

I qualified a number of years ago and the syllabus has changed since then. I don't think your target is unrealistic if you put in the study hours every week and pass each exam first time

I'm doing ACCA. I started it in Sep 07. I did 2&3 in Dec 07 and 1 in Jan-08. I've done 2 units at each sitting since. I work full time and so have been studying at evening classes. ACCA messed up my original application which means I now can't do the thesis paper to covert to a degree but you don't need to and the ACCA qual is higher than a degree anyway so after being initially a bit upset i'm not too bothered now. I study with Kaplan which is one of ACCAs approved publishers and so far have been pretty impressed with them. To add that i have been a management accountant for the past 8 years and did my AAT studies before that so I did have some background in the area.

Good luck - going back to study as an adult can take some getting used to but I felt is was about time I got fully qualified to open up my employment prospects a little more.

I'm CIMA qualified and studied at one of the local further education colleges, so took 3 or 4 papers a year, all in one sitting. From what I can gather from people I've worked with etc, this is quite unusual and most people would do it the same way that you're planning to. I have all first time passes and didn't really take a break (apart from sitting the final case study a year after passing my finals rather than 6 months, as I was getting married) and still took what some of my colleagues now would think is a long time to pass everything.

So I think it's realistic, if you're prepared to put the work in.

I think I replied on another thread of yours about ACCA? Not sure, might have been someone else. Anyway, what you've put isn't unreasonable, I am only doing one paper at a time but that's because I'm doing ACCA off my own back, I don't really need it for work yet as I love my job, and I can't give up my life enough to be able to do two exams at a time. I don't mind that it's going to take me ages to complete, I love studying it, so it's not a chore.

Hope you get on well with it, if you want a chat about it, just shout! x

I'm in a similar situation (Julia, i think it might have been my thread you replied to), i'm about to have a baby, and have just started studying ACCA. my goals are similar to yours and i think they're reasonable. i work as a financial accountant so the first papers are fairly easy to grasp - though I'm prepared for things to get a lot harder. I've got a very supportive husband who's willing to take over household chores to give me more study time, as well as plenty of family support when the baby arrives. i think with determination it can be done, and the rewards are worth it.

Hi Julia, yes you replied to me Thursday :-)

    Dobedo-PM isn''t working

Are you doing it via mature student entry route? (ie have to take papers 2 &3 before paper 1)

When are you planning on doing your first computer based exams?

I'm doing it through the mature student route. i'm planning to do papers 2 and 3 at the next sitting (october i think it is), then paper 1 in december. then, hopefully 2 papers every 6 months. of course, I don't know how much the baby is going to disrupt those plans, so I'm aware things may not go to plan. I'm pretty determined though, and, like you, i really enjoy it. In a way, having a baby makes me more determined, as there's a need to provide a good future for him now.

Don't know why my PM isn't working, I've never used it. i'd like to know how you're getting on though.
