Accessories on the day: Handbag and watch

bingowings, 28 August, 2011 at 19:24 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi

Does the bride have a handbag on the day and, if so, does the witness hold this all day?

Would it be wrong to wear a watch? I wear mine all the time and would feel lost without it!

Thanks Smiley smile

The watch question is an interesting one, but if i recall correctly, the last time it was asked on here, most people thought it best not to wear a watch, and that you shouldnt need one anyway, as it is your day, and you needn't worry about the time at all (and if you want to know the time, as your bridesmaid! lol!)

I won't be wearing a watch as when I do, i just end up looking at it all the time.

I wont be using a bag either.

I'm wearing a watch, as I feel naked without one on.

Regarding the handbag, it has been a source of debate in my family. I need powder, lipstick, perfume, mints, and tissues on the day. Compromise has been reached by my putting my lipstick in Dad's jacket pocket at the start of the day, to be transferred to OH's after ceremony. the small handbag will be kept in the 'Bridal' changing room at the venue, along wtih my contact lens case and solution and glasses. My brother will take my little bag of essentials to the guildhall for handing over to the wedding co-ordinator before the do. It will be collected before the wedding breakfast where it will stay on the table with me.

Logistics of personal effects is going to be a pain in the bum.

As is said above, last time this was raised the general concensus from the OMs were that you wouldn't need a watch - but I missed having mine! I asked the TOG the time to make sure we didn't miss dinner (although of course he was watching this, I was hungry and wanted to make sure!), I asked the time to see how long was left till the buffet came out (was hungry), I asked the time at around 10:30pm when our first guest was leaving, to see why they were leaving as it still felt so early, and I asked at 12:00am when the bar closed - wondered why as I didn't know last orders had been called!! TBH though, things will happen that will make you know the time. Eg: Our singing starting at 8:30pm made me know it was 8:30 etc.

Re the bag - I had planned on having a lovely little clutch bag, but on the day needed so many things that I had a "bride" canvas bag - which went with my stepmom in her car when she dropped my dad off, who took it to church and then onto the venue leaving it in my changing room/loo.

I thought i'd need lipstick, make up, perfume but being honest, touching up my make up was the last thing on my mind as I walked out of church holding my new hubbys hand, and the first time I stopped to look was around 9pm when Mom told me to! (My photo's are going to be awful aren't they? ?).

I won't be wearing a watch. I never wear one so it would just be weird.

I have got a bag. I haven't really thought too much about what I'll do with it .I won't be carrying it but I suppose my mum will be able to hold it during the ceremony for me and then I'm sure someone will look after it until the wedding breakfast when it can go under the table or something. I've got make-up essentials, an inhaler, contact lens solution and perfume that I'll need to keep somewhere with me.

I will be having a watch - I have bought a new sparkly one. I can't NOT wear a watch, it feels weird.

And I will have my emergency kit in a clutch bag that I will leave with my sister until after the ceremony. It matches my shoes.

    Thanks for your quick replies.

I'll go watchless then. Eeeeekkkk, I'm gonna feel naked.

Think I'll take a small bag and ask one of my witnesses to hold it. It'll only be for the duration of the ceremony and then we'll be sat down/mingling most of the time.

I'll get my other witness to carry my brolly Smiley winking

I hate not having a watch one but was so glad I didn't on my wedding day and I really never even considered the time! I was told not to beforehand from different people especially photographers (although not my own tog) but I didn't want to anyway on the day as I wanted to just go with the flow.

I gave different people my things instead of having a bag but I guess it would have been useful but not essential. We were staying in the hotel anyway so everything I needed was in my room but I had a lipgloss in my bm's bag and that was really all I needed.

I'm not having a bag as I can't think what I'd need one for but I am having a watch, it's my something borrowed, it totally doesn't go with any of my accessories for my dress but it's a Gold (?) watch that my great uncle bought for my Nan when she was 21 in 1940 something so it's very old and it means something to have it on.

I'd also feel naked without a watch on.
