Accidentally booked a DJ

BoroKate, 4 January, 2010 at 22:27 Posted on Planning 0 8

I asked OH to phone our venue to chase up some paperwork we are waiting for. I also asked him to get some info on their DJ (I was thinking along the lines of do we book through the venue or direct through the DJ, what type of music do they play, website details, phone no etc).

He came home from work and said the DJ is £150 so I booked it. He didn't even get any other details!!!

Well that will teach me to ask him to do something. Fingers crossed it works out ok.

Sounds like something that would happen to me. lol.

Just make sure you speak to the DJ direct about the music, we had a family party recently and we left it with the venue to give our play list to the DJ and they got it totally wrong. (It was a 90th and 65th birthday party and the DJ was all set for a 21st!!).

Good luck with the rest of your plans.

. . . or too good to be true?

Bless him, I suppose at least he's trying to get involved about something other than the stag night!

At least the thought was there! Does sound like a good price though! Mine is £350, do a bit of a search on them and you should have a cooling off period anyways, im guessing your OH hasnt actually signed a contract with them. Im sure if the venue recommend them though then they will be fine!

Please do not assume that a DJ will be brilliant just because a venue provides them. Don't get me wrong....some of them are, but some venues choose their dj on price rather than quality. Also, you cannot expect a £150 DJ to be of the same callibre as a £350 one. Asking the venue for contact details of the DJ and talking to them direct will put your mind at rest.

Thanks ladies, im waiting for the venue to get back to me with some contact details for the DJ (which is what OH was supposed to get in the 1st place lol). If I don't like them i can easily cancel as I haven't paid any money yet.

I think have a chat with him, do a google to see if anyone's reviewed them, and if you decide to go ahead perhaps think of a list of track you definitely want, and perhaps more important, don't want!

Our Dj comes in with the hotel package, i don't imagine that the hotel would have someone terrible as its going to reflect on them too but then again i'm just expecting the usual disco. at least he hasn't booked some random band at least with a DJ they should have the usual suspects when it comes to songs etc
