Acrylic v gel nails????

Definitely Gel. I've never tried acrylic but I was with a friend who wore them all the time and managed to catch her finger on the steering wheel and ripped both the acrylic nail and own nail off. It was awful. Thats put me off for life.

I had gels done for my wedding and they looked really nice. Took them off about 7 weeks later and own nails were poor but soon recovered.

I'm tempted to have them done again though.

I've had both and I would say gel for the reason FF says. I have pinged the gel ones off but have know people lose their own nail with acrylic nails. They both wreck your own nails

I have a feeling Portia will turn up on here at some point. She keeps saying it and I tend to agree, it's not the material that wrecks your nails but a bad technician. I can't speak for acrylic but i've had Biogel nails twice and they certainly haven't wrecked my nails, it's going to one of those dodgy chinese type places that tends to do that, go to a recommended/approved tech and you should be fine. I can recommend one if you're anywhere near Gloucestershire.
