Activity Packs

FloLo, 3 January, 2016 at 12:14 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hello!

We've got 4 children attending our Wedding and I wanted to provide some activity packs for them for during the speeches etc., problem is they are all different ages and I'm not sure exactly what to include. We have -

Girl age 10

Boy age 7

Boy age 3

Girl age 1

I've found some activity packs online that include colouring sheets, puzzles for the older ones, crayons etc. and was going to add in some extras, but would a 1 year old be colouring? (I don't have children of my own)

Any advice?

Thanks!

I think what you've found would be suitable for all but the youngest. At 1 maybe they would be asleep? Wishful thinking! As an aside I think anyone doing activity packs is amazing. When I was younger and went to weddings or any public event, we were taught to sit there and shut up. It's so different now!!!

I could do with some advice on this as well. We only have one child coming to the wedding, OH's 2 and a half year old nephew who we've never met. We have no children ourselves and I haven't got a clue what's suitable for him at that age!

The one year old may have a bit of a scribble so I'd still get some crayons and a colouring book. Maybe like a soft toy for her to play with? I'd pop to somewhere like poundstretcher to have a look. I've seen people do I spy for the older kids which I think is a nice idea - get them a cheap disposable camera with a list of things they need to take photos of at the wedding. Might even be worth asking the kids parents what stuff they're into and enjoy to get an idea of what to pop in the packs

From my experience at 1 year old (not my own, but others!) they're not really at a sit and do something kind of age. Some colouring if they'll be near older siblings probably won't hurt, but otherwise I think it'll be mostly down to the parents, I'm afraid!

I've loved the I Spy idea since I saw it on Pinterest and have decided (for now!) that I probably won't be having activity packs, but might leave some I Spy cards out at the reception for everyone, along with a request to post the pics on social media. I'm also thinking about putting out some simple origami instructions and some paper, which could be good for the older children? Smiley smile

Good luck, I'm sure it'll be ok. As said above, it's nice of you to even consider doing this so don't put too much pressure on yourself to over do it!

Thanks everyone for the advice. We didn't really want children at the wedding at all but compromised on some, I've just got these visions of a screaming toddler and baby no matter what I do, they're not easily entertained. Hopefully this will go some way to harmony!

It'll be ok, I didn't really want children either, but OH wouldn't even dream of not inviting kids (partly due to the amount of travel). At the end of the day you need to just trust your friends and family will understand that screaming kids are not really ideal. Maybe make sure the younger two are positioned near to exits in case they need to make a speedy exit? I reckon 7 and 10 are old enough to be shushed with relatively good results, right?

I just got some activity packs made from etsy, they come in 3 different age ranges so the puzzles etc are slightly harder for older kids, and I got some mini bubbles bottles. I think anything to keep them occupied during speeches will be appreciated by the parents :-)

I'm getting married in June, and we are in the same boat, we've got under 1's to 15 year olds, so I've been on the lookout for activity packs.

Hopefully the parents will also have ways of entertaining them. I was going to also suggest Etsy, but have you looked on Pinterest, there are lots of great ideas, if you wanted to build your own packs.
