Of course. as long as it doesn't hurt any living things.

Really, bearing in mind the outpouring of almost universal dislike on a previous thread regarding dove releases and the like, did you start this thread to be controversial?

Oooooo Please can we have a nice thread? The last few have been a bit touchy feely....Lets just agree to disagree on the Dove release (they're being released, this is a good thing, isnt it ?)

Hair and make-up artist - I deem this as a luxury but one that was totally worth it.

Additional food when the evening guests arrived at 5.30 (mini sausage and mash, fish and chip cones etc)

    Booze!

To be honest, as the day got closer I did get a bit of the "well we've spent this much already, there is no point scrimping now" mentality - for example paying £120 for a manicure and pedicure (though I did feel slightly sick when handing over the cash!)

No. They are birds that have been bred in captivity, with absolutely no means of fending for themselves. Although they are supposed to return, half of them don't, being utterly disorientated by a new space and, well, space at all. Many of them are preyed upon by the local wildlife.

Yes of course we can have a nice thread. It just might not be this one.

I don't believe that cruelty to living things is too nice a subject.

Doves don't survive in the wild...

    https://archive.nytimes.com/cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/28/real-doves-for-the-i-do-its-best-if-you-dont/

at best it will be pigeon lobbing who will be trained to return 'home'. However the breeding or white pigeons is itself a controversial topic (ones with grey in them will be killed).

    /news/the-truth-about-butterfly-and-dove-releases/

its really up to the individual.

I'm with you on this one!! I'm cr@p at doing hair & make up and I'm a serious stress-head so this is my luxury too. Can't imagine how I'd cope if I have a bad hair day or poke myself in the eye with a mascara wand or something.

I too fancied the idea of a dove release but its just too expensive for what it actually is for us unfortunately... everyone has different views on animals!

We have gone for a candy cart and a white and silver post box. I would love a harpist but have been quoted £650 for the ceremony, Reception and breakfast which is what I would want and again its too expensive :-( I've compromised and bought a lovely CD with wedding harpist music.

Would love a band or tribute band or something if we had the pennies too...It may sound cheesy but I quite fancy someone singing our first dance song to us :-)

Nope didnt start this thread to cause any problems or arguements or funniness etc etc etc... everyone has their own opinions ets so yep will have to agree to disagree on that one im afraid.

i think food plays a big part, another set of our friends getting married in Aug has spent £14500 on the wedding brekkie alone! i think we are looking at having a free bar for our evening guests aswell as the evening buffet we also plan on having the additional hog roast.

A live band - there was no question for us, but still a luxury.

Hog Roast and kegs of Ale

Hair for me and BM - not make up though as that makes me nervous!

OP didnt comment on the previous thread, which I know doesn't mean they necessarily didnt read it but they might not have & didn't see all of that, especially considering its nearly 40 pages long.

We're having an ice cream trike and string quartet as our luxurys, everything else is pretty standard ?

We're having champagne (cava) for all the guests when they return from the church to the hotel and there will be a fountain to dispense it. ?

Ah well, in that case, as a member of the elite classes I had a totally unique wedding dress made by a one-off designer, several classically trained professional church musicians (and no,I don't mean someone off a website - this is word of mouth requests only), five clergy, a vegetarian buffet and flowers grown in the local castle.

So that's only £70 a head. Bargain. Half what ours cost.

Is good food a luxury item?

Sometimes I have a "screw it let's just spend the money" moment, but then when I actually think about what i'm paying for, and what that money could buy me in the 'real' (i.e non-wedding) world... I can't do it!

70 a head.. yeah i suppose when its said like that doesnt seem that bad!

I think i would also like fresh flowers rather than artifical ones... the artifical ones look stunning and i know that a bouquet would last forever and could be put on display or glass boxed after as fresh flowers will only last as long as they will. im tempted to buy 2 bouquets! fresh for the day and then have an identical one made up so that i can keep it!

At our Australia wedding - not for the wedding itself, but part of the whole thing - welcome bags for each guest upon arrival at their respective hotels; a boat transfer between the ceremony and reception which doubled up as a harbour sightseeing cruise, a brunch the following day (we paid for food and a glass of bubbly, they paid for all other drinks).

At our home reception - not a luxury in terms of cost, but in terms of surprise value, my singing group did a flash mob (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnE2I4zDGp0); we put on a shuttle bus between the reception venue and the nearest town, we had fireworks.

Definitely do this. And get a gold-plated version too as the artificial one won't last forever
